These posts mentioning the P5's makes me want to dig mine out. I love them but must have a big head as they're a little tight for me.

Well, I'm a female who is rather short of stature, and while there is a school of thought that argues that my head is rather large, my P5s fit me perfectly.

Sorry that they haven't worked out for you, @IronWaffle, and @Dave Meadows.

I was similarly uncomfortable with the P5 but, based on the exact break-in issue with the VModa, it might be safe to expect that after a week or two of wearing yours consistently that they'll settle in and it was no longer an issue.

Now, of course, if that doesn't work then my best advice would be set a pot of water to boil. Then submerge your head for 20-30 minutes. True, irreparable lifelong scarring will create all manner of physiological, psychological and social problems, but I estimate that's all you need to shrink your head the 1-2% that will alleviate the cranial pressure.* If you really care about audio then it isn't a sacrifice; it's a badge of honor.

*I'm not a doctor. I should never be one. I should never give advice. No one should ever take my advice. That said, if you remotely consider taking the above "advice," consider seeing a different kind of doctor first. Before that, send me your P5, though!

I now have a collection of headphones. Three Sennheisers and one Sony. From the top down they are the Sennheiser 598CS, 558, 598, and Sony MDR-10rbt. All are going through an AudioEngine D1 DAC/Amp coming off my rMBP. The 598CS is closed back while the other two Sennheisers are open back. The Sony's are closed back and not sure they even make an open back headphone. I'm not going to keep all the Sennheisers but I'm just trying to find the best for comfort and sound. The 598CS seems to be the most comfortable but has a very different sound signature compared to the 558 and 598. Those two have an almost identical sound signature with the 558 having just a touch more bass than the 598. The 598 seems to have a bit more clarity than the 558. Describing the 598CS sound signature has been almost impossible for me. I won't say they sound bad as in many cases they sound really good. Even so they definitely sound very forward in the mids and highs which almost overtakes the bass. I find the bass better on the 558 and 598 both of which are open back. The 598CS just doesn't sound natural to me compared to the 558 and 598. The volume of the 598CS is louder than the 558 and 598 when keeping the volume level the same on the AE D1. Detail and imaging and soundstage is the best on the 598 but the 558 come very close.

As for the Sony's they are definitely more bass heavy than the Sennheisers but still have good clarity too. But they are certainly the more "fun" sounding headphone. If you're one who loves bass heavy music like rap, r&b, hip-hop, EDM or pop than the Sony's are for you. Otherwise the Sennheiser is much better for those who love classic rock, jazz, blues, classical, movie scores.

I'm looking into getting the newer model of the 500 series Sennheiser or even the 598SR which has the headband of the 598CS but the earcups of the original 598. I definitely want something for long sessions. Right now I actually find the Sony's to be the most comfortable to wear. My only complaint is the pads and headband get oily on the Sony's.

My favourite pair of headphones, Sennheiser HD600 with Schiit Magni 2 amp.

How do you like the sound. I have the Sennheiser 598 SR on the way. I sold the 598CS and my other two Sennheisers (pictured in the post above yours) are up for grabs also. My Sony's are too comfy to sell.

The go-to for all my music. Neutral, smooth, accurate, very balanced lows, crisp highs.
Acoustic, vocals, (classic) rock, you name it. These cans are amazing.

Except for when you're a bass-head (the bass is good, but doesn't blow you away). These cans are everything you can wish for. An audiophile benchmark for about 20 years now. If you love music, willing to spend a bit of cash on a pair of headphones and an amp, these cans are amazing for almost every type of music and well worth the money!

Well I have an AudioEngine D1 DAC/amp so I'm just waiting on my Sennheiser 598SR to arrive. How much were the HD600?

Really?? Not sure why but that seems cheap to me. I thought they were more expensive.

Nah, HD600 isn't that expensive, at least not here in Holland. Allthough some people might argue $350,00 is still quite a bit of money for a pair of headphones.

If you haven't tried them yet, I recommend listening through them if you have the opportunity.

If you like a bit more bass and a warmer overal sound, try the 650's

What's that amp your using? Have you a link of where to buy?

It's a Schiit Magni 2:

They're awesome sounding, very solid build for the price.

But it's just an Amp right? No DAC as well inside?

I think I do like a warmer sound but I don't usually listen to bassy music like rap or hip-hop.

Does mass drop ship worldwide?

Yes! US shipping is free, everywhere else is a semi-reasonably $15 - here's a post from the MassDrop team about this drop (that also includes shipping locations):

Hey all,

First, a big thanks to the community for the amazing response toward the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX.

To continue the chain of good news on this drop, we have been able to secure 10,000 additional serialized units as part of the second run. Furthermore, we are working to get another 3,500 units confirmed.
Drop Details Pricing is the same: $199.99 with free shipping to the US and $15 shipping per unit internationally. The drop will begin on Monday, July 10 at 6 a.m. PT and will continue until July 30 or until the available units sell out. A total of 10,000 units will be available, and as this is a continuation of the second run order that started in June, the drop counter will start at 11,500 and run to 21,500.

Shipping
The additional 10,000 units will have the same expected ship date (December 18) as the rest of the second run.
A couple of people have asked if it is possible to speed up the production, given the obvious demand. I have copied Will’s response below to a similar question. As a summary, the bottleneck is a result of the lead time in sourcing components from part suppliers by Sennheiser further up the supply chain. That said, Sennheiser and our Logistics team here are continuing to work to deliver the HD 6XX as soon as possible.
Will’s post:

“Ha, thanks for your post. I wish it was as simple as getting 500 more people at their facility in Ireland, but the time comes from further up the supply chain. The assembly step only takes a couple weeks, it's the parts suppliers that cause the long lead times (remember how replacement cables took six months?)
For reference, the first run took as long to make, we just offered them to the community later in the process. This wait is the same as that wait, but now you know you're waiting vs blissful ignorance. It's six of one, half a dozen of the other in objective terms, but that's not how it feels as a consumer.” (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx/talk/1735458)
Final Words

All this wouldn’t be possible without the community’s response to the second run of the HD 6XX and we thank you all for it. Sennheiser revisited their production schedule as a result of the impact of your participation in the previous drop. This is a big achievement and the Massdrop community should be proud of it. As we mentioned earlier, we are working on securing another 3,500 units and will get back to everyone with an update as soon as we have confirmation.

List of countries that the drop will ship to: Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Belarus, Canada, Switzerland, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Finland, Faroe Islands, France, United Kingdom, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Mauritius, New Caledonia, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Peru, French Polynesia, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine, United States, Uruguay, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Cyprus, Israel, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

My current setup: Sennheiser HD599 with Schiit Magni 2/Modi 2

I use this with my MBP. I also use this to listen to vinyl (but instead of the Modi DAC, a Mani preamp). I've been thinking of upgrading the headphones to HD 600 or HD 650, but for now I'm good with 599s. It seems to sound excellent with all the classical I listen to (80% of the music I own), but also sounds good with the popular music I have (mostly indie rock and electronica).

If you like a bit more bass and a warmer overal sound, try the 650's

That sounds like what I'd want. Since I do prefer more bass and a warmer sound, the 650s might be a good pair to get next :)

Am I reading that right? They don't ship until December?? Why such a long time away?

I really want the 599. Are they comfortable to wear for long sessions? The 598 (ivory) were not so comfy for me. I have the 598SR coming to me by next week.

If you didn't like the feel of the 598s, you probably won't like the 599s. They're virtually the exact same shape, just different color-scheme. I find them to be fairly comfortable (in contrast I found the Philips Fidelio X2 so uncomfortable that they felt like they were boring into my skull), but I never listen for too long. An hour or so for most of my longer sessions.

Hmm well the headband is different padding on the 599 compared to the 598. Hence my asking. Would you say the sound quality of the 599 is comparable to 598?

I don't think I even noticed it was different :p Doesn't feel any less comfortable to me.

I would say the sound is very similar. I notice very little difference between the two. I would swear they sound a little better to me (not in a way that I could describe usefully), but the specs are only slightly different. I upgraded mainly because my 598s were physically falling apart. But if you like the sound of the 598s, you will like the sound of the 599s. At best you'll consider it a marginal improvement.

Cool. Thanks for all the info. Right now I'm running my headphones from an AudioEngine D1 amp/DAC. But I want to try the Micca Origen+. It seems to have good reviews.
