I saw someone claimed on Reddit that on the iOS 14.3 beta, using the ‘profile’ way of creating alternate icons, stock apps now also don’t have a redirect. Does anyone know if that’s right?
That is correct. There is zero redirect when a profile is used for the applications, not even the “shortcuts” notification at the top. I haven’t found a smooth way to use this for icon sets yet for my specific liking yet. I still can‘t go all in on swapping out icons if notification badges aren’t present. That’s a bigger deal breaker for me than the small notification when running the shortcut

Unfortunately it turned out not to be correct - the public release of 14.3 added removed 'seamless' integration of system apps. So the least intrusive way of giving them custom icons is via shortcuts, and then you get the small banner at the top each time you use it. Hey ho.

Here’s mine! I did all of the icons from scratch on Affinity Designer but I don’t really know vector drawing, so I have tried my best experimenting and trying doing these. The only one that I cheated was the Pages app, I just stuck the log in the template that I created, didn’t want to redo the icon as a vector but most probably I will do it later. Though.. damn..it took so much time doing all those icons lol. Some of them I added my touch, some of them I did like the original. :=)

I like this a lot - very clean!

Thank you very much! I had posted this on Reddit as well, and someone just commented that those icons looks “fugly” lol So, it feels nice to see that someone finds it clean it too. 🙃
Reddit is a cesspool of negativity and keyboard warriors. Everybody's entitled to their opinion (mine is that your setup looks great) but I don't understand the appeal of talking down to strangers on an anonymous forum.

I think those icons look sharp too! As someone who used to create jailbreak themes, I appreciate the time it takes to do this, especially if you do icons for all the apps on your device.

Fugly is as fugly does... why let some anonymous troll on Reddit dictate how you feel about your work? I like the icons very much... not willing personally to go through the gyrations to install them, but since you are, enjoy them. Well done!

Thank you very much for those nice words! 😊 Actually it has been the first time that I received such negative comments about a post. Also according to the feedbacks that I got on Reddit, my homescreen made me realize how different we all are, in a good way. Some find it hideous, very ugly whereas some other finds it very nice, there doesn’t seem to be a midway. 😅

Actually several people on Reddit said that they look like old jailbreak icons. 😅 Oh, I was looking at people who has done 4500+ icon packs for Android, and now I respect their patience even more as just doing this little icons made me go crazy! Thank you very much for your positive feedback! 😊

Thank you very much! 🙃 Actually no, I do not let a random Reddit user to dictate about how I feel about my work. I enjoy taking both negative and positive feedback to improve my work, my skills but it did not make me feel upset, it just felt weird. 😊

Agreed.

While they look well done, I don’t care for them.

I’m not all that excited about the widget apps that let you create widgets or themed icons for multiple/various apps for one primary reason- they don’t currently have the ability to “integrate” fully with the app.

Using “3rd party” widgets/icons you loose any interactivity that was afforded such as notification badges, long-press menus, etc.

maybe eventually there will be a theme program that merely changes the icon as you can do on jail broken devices but that would undoubtedly require a level of permissions that Apple is not ready to grant.

In the meantime, app developers should offer alternate icons for their apps much as Instagram did recently.

Just my opinion...

Many developers already offer alternate icons. The problem is, said icon options are often put behind a subscription, instead of a one time purchase.

Is there a widget/app that will give me a square the same size as the standard app square that just shows battery percentage, something really basic like this???

iOS battery percent.PNG

Farting around with Widgy, extreme trial and error learning process for me. 😅

I’d like to add a mirror image of the Apple analog clock to upper left corner of the widget.

The camera clicks through to open my camera app immediately. I’m waiting for Widgy to offer the same click-through to the SiriusXM radio app that I made that icon for... for some reason I’m not seeing it in the options list.

The current weather lower left are ‘now’ and ‘+1 day’, I will add a third day and add some text and move things around to make it look better. Maybe insert high/low over the weather symbols. We’ll see.

Goal is to have the one big widget and then one row of Apple icons below it.
