These are two photos both taken with the iPhone 5 which I think demonstrate the different ISO settings pretty well. The first is ISO 3200 which I triggered by trying to focus in a dark spot in the image. It went into higher ISO mode to boost the sensitivity and therefore appears brighter but more noisy. The second image I focused on a brighter part of the photo, yielding a darker but more sharp image.
