iPod Linux

Since you all seemed so interested in mods. I thought I would show you my 40GB Photo which is running Floydzilla (an interface for iPod Linux):

The picture is of those Matrix codes falling down the screen (a continous loop).

Tetris-one of the many games (alot more than I have commented on here) (sorry for the reflection!)

The periodic table which is pretty cool because when you move over an element and press the Select button you get loads of info about that element in note form.

Yes it is.

It doesn't say it is "officially" :)p) supported yet though:
PodLinux is currently safe to install on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation iPods. Development is currently on-going on later generations of iPod, including the fourth generation click wheel, mini, U2, Photo/Color, Nano, and Video.

I think if you look around the forum though you'll probably be able to read about people who have it working on their 5Gs.

Thanks,
Jeff.

How is music playback on iPod linux?

I tried it a few months ago on one of my iPods (15gb 3G)and it was quite poor! The songs played back choppy, often skipping to the point of being like a scratched CD. I promptly switched back to the normal iPod OS.

What format where they? If they were MP3 then try playing some OGG files. I told you iPod modding was cool:D

Ok, I googled around for anything interesting in iPod mods. I havn't found enough interesting for me to work on mine. Any pointers? Show me what mods are cool for iPods.

(BTW, my iPod resets everytime I pause it. How soon till the next iPod you think?)

Well theres iPod Linux which has been li nked to but theres also iPodWizard which (get bootcamp ready) is a Windows app but i s realy good at editing all the menus and icons (like do not disconnect) on almost any iPod

(BTW: i typed this on a co m puter with a broken keyboard and ill edit mistakes when im home)

Yeah the playback is pretty poor especially because (atleast at the time I installed it) you couldn't browse your files whilst listening to music.

TBH yesterday was the first time I had booted it up in months.

Thanks,
Jeff.

Has anyone been so bold as to include the iPod as the sole source of music for their home stereo equipment?!!

As the iPod is the focal point and CD/Cassette are secondary along with 12"/45mm records?

I bought a scratched up iPod for really really cheap and decided to replace the case. I think it looks kinda cool in the dock. It was originally a black iPod, and I replaced it with a white front cover.

Maybe in my next mod, I'll repaint the white cover to something else.

I just have my sole 60GB iPod 5G White. I don't have a dock or anything special, just tons of anime series' on it. I'll hopefully be getting an iPhone when they come out if certain things fall into place.
