Hi,
I've just jailbroken my iPhone 4 for thie first time as a trial to see how I get on. I'm feeling a bit thick right now, please could someone tell me how i would go about using an icon somebody's posted on here as opposed to the stock one?
Many Thanks
Let me first start by saying welcome to the jailbreak community! It seems a little confusing at first (or at least it did to me 5 years ago when I started), but you'll get it quickly, especially in this thread. People help a ton here.
Since I'm unsure of the extent of your jailbreak knowledge/experience, I'll try and put things into terms anyone can understand.
First of all, what you're looking for is called a theme, and the best place to start is by downloading Winterboard in Cydia. It's free, of course, and it allows you to change images of many different parts of the OS. You're looking for a theme that will change the look of your app icons, and there's thousands of those. I recommend Googling something like, "best ios 6 themes" for example. That should come up with results. Even looking through here you'll find many people asking about others' homescreens, lockscreens, etc. Most of the time you can track down the name of a theme. Personally I'm using a theme called Jaku on my iP5, and Glasklart HD on my iPad 4. Both are personal favorites of mine. Changing one icon specifically gets a little more complicated, and you'd need an app like iFile to do. (I HIGHLY recommend staying away from file browsers like that unless you really know what you're doing.)
A tweak is something that will change a part of the way the operating system performs actions. In other words, it allows you to do some really cool things. Tweaks are plentiful, and you can easily make them out on Cydia by a bright yellow drill-looking icon. Searching "best ios 6 tweaks" on the Internet will come up with tons of stuff.
Just do some research and you'll find what you're looking for. And don't be afraid to come back here with questions, or PM me, I think I speak for most of us saying we're willing to help. Good luck, have fun, and don't pirate downloads.
Oh and by the way this is in reply to both your posts.
