nice, let us know how you like them.

they sound much better IMO then the QC1s and are a lot smaller and lighter. (which for me is good; i got a small head/small ears) and most important is i got rid of that stupid battery box thingy that was on the wire. Now its a rechargeable battery which i guess is good and bad. But in any case i don't have that battery compartment thing anymore!

X2, if the velociraptors works well i´ll order 4 more

What are you working on that you need with THAT much expensive storage at that speed?

I'm looking to get two of them myself for a striped boot drive and I'll install my apps on that stripeset as well. But for the rest, I'm just going with quieter 5400 rpm drives.

Just curious.

PS: What chassis is that? I'm building a new gaming rig into a mid-tower chassis that looks like a beigebox from 10 years ago. But it will eventually have a couple of 280 cards in SLI. It just won't *look* like it. :)

I am building a multipurpose computer, it will serve as a MySQL server, webserver and gaming rig.

The reason i need 6 of the velociraptor (raid5) is because i am using alot of CGI and module function in IIS, PHP and IIS mod_rewrite module that drains resources, i am having alot of MySQL tables and requests so i need the performance, it will handle my personal homepage, my companys homepage and all demopages to serve my clients.

Well, the biggest reason i am getting this is that i am a gadget freak, a couple of 7200rpm disks would sertainly do the job but its not as cool :D

It´s a Lian Li PC-A70B, i wanted a clean looking chassie with alot of space inside of it, 7 HDD bay, 10 with my 5.25 module. The chassie is really good.

My old Lian Li chassie was pretty cramped so i hade to upgrade to bigger chassie:

And there we have it. You're actually using the equipment for the right reason. I see SO many threads where somebody with no concept of money buys a bunch of drives for an extra half a frame per second.

That is a great use for what you're doing with those drives. Good that you're running RAID5 since these drives aren't exactly made to last running 24x7 like a good SCSI drive is.

And yeah, you should probably be slapped for that picture. :) Good thing you got that nice chassis.

When you get the new beast built, could you PM me a picture of the inside as well as specs on your system board, memory, etc? I've been doing workstation/server stuff for a long time, so I'd love to see what somebody else is doing. And this way we can keep it out of Mac-land. :)

Thanks!

Just out of interest, what's the price/performance of these disks in comparison to traditional SCSI drives?
Well, the Seagate Cheetah cost a little more than double and has a little better access time, but then you need an expencive SCSI (SAS) controller so the overall system will be incredible expensive, and these Velociraptor is to expensive as it is.

Decrepit Sure will, sending you a PM soon.

Sorta not a purchase... But sorta is as you have to purchase iLife 08 to get it... Anyway its iMovie HD! Its soooo much better than the new version you get with Leopard, then again each has its advantages.

I thought iMovie HD came with iLife 06? I upgraded to the iLife 08, but kept the iMovie HD from my tiger MBP.
