Same. I thought I needed one when I first started shooting, so I bought one.
I think I've used it twice. I'm not sure where it even is right now.
well you can get a better picture using one 
, its very hard to get a perfect super clear photo handheld.
im not saying you need to use a tripod or monopod every time but you get the idea.. im 6 foot something i hope this thing will go all the way up lol.

I have one, but an older model. I think they're great. Definitely good for giving you that extra support when you don't want to drag around a heavy tripod.

This is somewhat right. If using a short fast lens there's probably little need, with the right amount of light, to use a monopod or even a tripod. Yes, you'll get clear crisp photos, but again, if your shutter speed is where you need it to be a mono or tripod is not 100% necessary. When shooting with a longer lens you almost always want to have one but again, ymmv.
I own one and use it when there is little need for the super steady hand of a tripod.
