I have to admit, I rarely game. So, I really can't compare this to older/other games. I haven't even gone through the season, I just jump on the quick races and compete. I think my friend may have the Championship Edition, I'll see if I can borrow it from him. Can you tell me what the major differences are for you (from the old game)?
But, I'm so glad I got the wheel. I just couldn't control the car with the regular controller. And I can't wait for GT5.
It's more the fact that there are A TON of bugs/glitches in the game as it shipped.(And codemasters rarely does DLC fixes) A big bugger: the cars you are racing post different lap times (sometimes 4-6 seconds faster) than they actually are on the track. Its as if the cars are there for show, and the sim engine is running them seperate for the qual and race.
The biggest bugger for me is that it seems as if codemasters decided, or did not know about some major F1 rules (such as no modifying the cars under parc ferme conditions as I stated) (Meaning the car setup is the same for qualifying and racing)
Some cars will never pit during a race (one must use both sets of tires, requiring a min of 1 pit per race)
Cars ghost past eachother in the pits, or while exciting pits cross the pit exit line.
So... real F1 strategy cannot exist in game.
Another bugger, it is possible for Lotus, Virgin, and HRT to be faster than the more established cars in the game. Really has not happened this year in real life. It seems the sim ability/handling is the same for all teams. Rubbish. In game, I find it easy to qualify in a Virgin 15th or higher. Seriously WTF Codemasters??!!
It also seems that throttle control has been made harder than it really is in an F1 car. If you get a chance to see a graph of what a real F1 driver does in the car, its more like off throttle or on throttle, than modulating it a ton. Sure they lift a little, or hold 1/4 throttle, but they do roll on much faster than the game allows before spinning out.
