It reminds me of a restaurant from a very popular European chef in LA, where the chef is famous and his food is great, but his establishment's food where the famous chef isn't (very hip like the picture) is mediocre at best.

Reviews on the internet of the above eatery seem to shadow that of the famous LA eatery (which I won't mention but am sure you can guess). That being said, some of the dishes had favorable reviews but there wasn't much to be said of the service. Unfortunately, that happens in big cities if the demand far outstrips the seating and the establishment becomes a very hip place to go to. I also have been to a hip eatery with lots of guitars on the wall (SF, LA, and London), and the food is pretty much to be ignored, as is the price and noisy atmosphere, and I still like going there because of its cool decor.

Now I am curious as famous or really cool looking eateries with less than stellar reviews are usually never as bad as reviewers paint it to be. When it's a famous place, then the public expectation is too high and when it's not met, then the reviews rate a place lower than it deserves.

Even in my small town, there are a couple of places that are not that good but have tie ins with celebrities, and as long as the decor matches the glamor of the owner(s), then the service and food don't have to be good if they don't want it to be. Name alone keeps places like these in business.

Anyway, I hope your experience with the food and service was better than the internet reviews. It looks really cool, though.
You definitely hit the nail on the head, and it's sad that a lot of places rake in customers due to it's association as well as the "hip" factor. I've gone to plenty of upscale restaurants in the Tri-State area, so I went to DGBG with an open mind especially since it was the girlfriend and her friends who suggested it (of course the boyfriend end up footing the bill). Considering it was New Years Eve, the service and staff was on point constantly checking back with us to make sure everything was okay. The food was pretty good as well since they had some specials that night, and I ordered the roasted suckling pig which was to die for.

We ended up going to Peels afterwards for dessert at 325 Bowery, which really sealed the night. If you ever visit NYC you should definitely make a trip there.

Wow, that's great.

New Years Eve has to be as busiest as a place can get in your city, and if they were that attentive, that's a great sign. It sounds like, maybe now (but maybe for a long time, I don't know), NYC is trying to clean up that area.

There have been attempts to make the Mission District in SF a lot safer, and while it's prettier to look at, it's still the Mission District and thus dangerous. It's funny how the yuppies and developers thought that maybe making the area more expensive would chase out the dealers, but the dealers are richer than anyone out there, especially now in the recession. Pretty much same goes for SF's SOMA district.

you mean you like it when they stop by your table every 5 minutes and ask if you're still okay?

i hate when they do that; listen, i was okay when you checked 5 minutes ago, i'm not borderline, nothing's changed since then, i'll wave if i need anything, now leave me the f alone

also, when they swoop in to take away the plate of the people who are finished eating before everyone else at the table is finished; would you show some decency and leave my plate alone until everyone in my party has finished eating, thanks

BUT ANYWAY, glad to hear the food was good!

When it's too much, that's annoying unless the waitress is HOT (okay I said it, how politically incorrect of me!) ;)

And I don't care what he wait staff looks or acts like if they are always giving me soda refills...just hook up a soda IV to me.

I took a quick 3 month "vacation" from photography, thus I am buying all new gear (sold it all). Since I need to buy EVERYTHING, i decided to go with this fabulous lens, instead of the 17-40L since I need to buy a new tripod and head.

I lost my iPhone headsets so I bought some new ones, along with an iPhone dock. I'd post pics, but I'm sure everyone knows what they look like. :)

I bought some "sustained-release" melatonin. The regular pills cause me to wake up wide-awake once they wear off (about 4-5 hours).

Melatonin + Dreaming = Awesomeness :D

Sleeps sounds sooo good right now. Last of the day will be putting this up (with apologies for shabby screenshot)- more film and a reminder that I don't actually need more cameras (wicked Seagull TLR going cheap on ebay right now btw... please someone take care of this before I wake up:D). And this which will spend the next two weeks in the back of some geezers' vans not knowing how much its looked forward to being played with. Night!

Haha I just bought it today too for the PC on eBay for $43 shipped.

I've been wanting to play it for the longest time but I hear it has lots of problems so I was unwilling to pay $59.99.

I rented it for $3 for 5 nights.. And i wish i had my $3 back.. Thought it was horrible. Great concept for a game, cool weapons and stuff. But the online play was a lag fest and your lucky if you live more than 15 seconds in TD. It's back to back.

I got the Kinect and a few games for my existing 360. I've calibrated it, and tried the game that came with it for a bit. I thought it was fun. :)

LavAzza espresso, none of that Starbucks crap.

That stuff's good. I tend to enjoy Lavazza in general, as I am a biased Italian.

Bought this Razer Vespula Dual-Sided mouse pad for at work.

Edit: btw, it's more cliche to go out of your way to express your dislike for all of Starbucks than to like them. :p

It depends if you are a fps gamer or not. I played MW2 for a long time so I know what to expect out of Black Ops.
