Yeah...monoprice sucks, actually. Just got two bad miniDP-dvi cables from them. Build quality is terrible. Had to switch back to my standard dvi cable with apple's miniDP adapter. No issues now. So, to Best Buy I go tomorrow to get the same setup for my wife.
I hate horribly expensive cables (monster, I'm looking at you) but in cases such as these, you really do get what you pay for.
I got a similar cable from Circuit Assembly to save like 10-15 bucks over the Apple adapter plus only have one cable to deal with.
Got the cable, looked okay, but it only lasted a day when the monitor started flickering like mad. Cost me about 5 dollars in shipping to try it out, but I ended up having to return it and get a miniDP to DVI adapter. Luckily, the monitor I got came with a DVI cable so I guess it was worth it try it out at least.
I agree with you though, I wouldn't do that again.
