One at work. One at home is what I do. And as my late 2018 Mac mini just died looks like I’ll be needing them!

May I ask HOW you killed your mac mini? These things will last 5 years easy. I say they will last 10+ no issue except for the HDD if mechanical might die.

Software update.

It will be repaired as it’s under Apple care, but not good.

Breville Smart Oven Air. This thing has already paid for itself for all the meals we made at home. It’s awesome.

Had Lasik done and had brilliant eyesight for the first time since I was a kid - it lasted two years which is fairly typical as your eyes adapt and adjust over time. If I could have the two year vision for say, 20 years, I would do it again - as it stands, I would keep the money and go with contacts! YMMV of course!

So your last purchase was two years ago? Surprised and somewhat shocked to hear that your improved sight lasted such a short time. I guess it depends upon many factors as I have friends who had it done years ago and they have not had much if any deterioration.

Yeah sorry, maybe a bit misleading! I had the Lasik done way back expecting it to outlast me but have been told by a lot of eye specialists that old age always catches up and most Lasik patients should expect to be wearing (at the very least) readers at some point in the future - I didn't expect that. Neither did I expect to have severe floaters, reduced vision, cataracts etc quite so soon - to be honest I lay the blame entirely at having had the Lasik and therefore at myself for my vanity in not wanting to wear glasses or contacts anymore but you live and learn and I said, Your Mileage May Vary!

And my last purchase was the 2020 12.9" iPad Pro, my next purchase will be the Magic Keyboard to go with it!

Thanks for the clarification. Sorry that the results have not been what you had hoped. Enjoy your new iPad!

USB-C USB-C all together now... USB-C!!! If it's a "pro" model, it needs usb-c like the iPad Pro. Come-on now Apple, you can do it.

I was told that Apple no longer "bricks" during update because apple has opted a method where it creates a backup of the current devices, meanwhile installing the new software, if it fails it can always revert back.

I was updating my mac mini to Catalina, where in the middle of it I unintentionally hit the power cord and it got shutdown, I thought that was the end of it. Luckily it continued to work just fine...

How is this different from the regular kitchen oven? Isn't it really just an "air fryer" ?

Not sure who told you that, but it’s happening to MacBook Pro’s as well. Very poor from Apple.

Ordered Magic Keyboards for my wife and my friend.
Problem is, I think I'll like it once I use it.
She is way more of an iPad person than I am.

New Magic Mouse for wifey. The 2 people who don't know what it looks like already can just use their imagination. (hint: it's a house mouse with a cape and a wand)

3M protective earmuffs. I looked briefly at electronic ones to also play music, but to get the same sound protection level the price seems to increase by 5x at least, so here we are.

A bunch of (mostly) C13 to C14 power adapter cables. Mostly to make better use of the power outputs from the UPS, but also pre-planning for better cable management related to a near-planned future purchase.

maybe its iOS only

why did you choose to go with Kia?

Well, for the past couple years I’ve been looking for a car that was affordable but also had the features I wanted, some character and of course, reliable. Since my first two cars were a Toyota and Honda I was thinking about sticking with Japanese. But one of my friends mentioned the Kia Optima, and I like the way it looked so I decided to do some research. Come to find out, Kia cars have become really good, in some ways better than Honda. Went to test drive it, and this car drives like a dream and had everything I wanted.

I'm curious why an SSD for a backup, something that inherently doesn't really impact the user in terms of speed.

Well I want to keep my iMac silent, it has a 512 GB SSD ;) I will have it permanently attached on a twelvesouth backpack. Also, why not? Might as well go with a SSD, prices have come down a lot. Also no moving parts, had a lot of „normal“ HDDs dying on me in the past

I mean it's personal preference largely, but for the same price (going by amazon prices) you could buy a 5TB mechanical drive, which means a lot more history kept (assuming you're using it for differential backups via TM or similar).

Edit: double money/price word salad.

Believe it or not this was purchased as part of a routine re-up of pantry stocks as what I thought was the end of winter hit the calendar. Unfortunately that was about the time the coronavirus panic buying kicked in. Yeah. So poor ol' Walmart has spent the last six weeks having FedEx ship me a box of crackers from California, four cans of tomato soup from Kansas, etc. etc., but had also informed me that 5 lbs of rice was backordered. Yeah. On a $55 order so far, they have fulfilled it piecemeal via 9 shipments and counting. It was an order for over $35, so shipping was free.

The rice just got charged to my account and should show up pretty soon. FedEx guy can't believe it either (direct quote "doesn't this stuff usually just come in one big box?") but hey the couriers get paid even if Walmart doesn't get a dime from me on the shipping. I admire their dedication to existing customers but wonder about the logic of trying to compete with Amazon for online purchases before they've built up enough hubs to make it profitable. Could be awhile, apparently! Anyway the rice is the tag end of my "latest purchase" now that it fell off the backordered part of what used to be a routine order in March...
