I got the wide angle lens out and got a pic of the front of my living room. I have a mac mini hooked up to the TV and a MBP on the table by the chair.

Nice setup. Here is a stupid question. Whats the purpose for a Mac Mini connected to the tv vs a apple tv?

because mac mini is to be used as an actual computer whereas the apple tv is mostly a media streamer.

I just wanted the clock. :p

To be honest, it does a lot more than the AppleTV and it serves double duty as a media server and I also use it in my office for Slingbox (I use one HDMI out to feed the receiver in the living room and I use miniport to HDMI in the office) . I still like the Apple TV for what it does, but even if I jailbroke it, it would not compete with a mini on many levels. I like having the Apple TV for simplicity, though.

Unfortunately, due to my school's network policies, I'm not allowed to have my own wireless network, meaning I can't print wirelessly, which completely defeats the point of having an AirPrint-compatible printer. In addition, they check for rogue wireless routers manually, by wardriving. So what I've done is I've put a router as close to the center of the room as I can, removed the antennas, and adjusted the power so the range barely covers the room. It works great, only problem is I have to manually connect the computer to the router every time I want to print, but not the end of the world

Couldn't this all be fixed by simply not broadcasting your network? I am not familiar with the printer but I imagine once you connect to the wireless you could then make it invisible, then make it only connect to your MAC address, and finally WPA2 just to be sure :D

Yes I believe it is possible to hide your wireless address (or printer in this case) and then just manually connect it to your Mac via system preferences

I do this too. But just because it's not broadcasting an SSID doesn't mean they can't detect that *something* is there. Because they can ;)
