So I'm curious. Do you regret this decision? I've been toying with this idea but I keep thinking that managing data for two machines is too much work. I currently have a thunderbolt display + 17" mbp but I'm upgrading next revision.

No, I do not. The main motivation for doing this was that the 27 imac essentially offers the same (more!) value as the Thunderbolt Display. The fact that you can use the 27 imac as a secondary display for the rMBP means that nothing would change really (except from gaining a second computer). It works just as flawless when using a simple (cheap) mdp to mdp cable as it would with the Thunderbolt Display. So I still often use this combo and its not really different.

As for file managing. I have all my documents stored in Dropbox and films on my home server. I listen to music via spotify. So, to be honest, I don't have any problems since I can access it all from both Macs. I don't have much more stored on my Mac(s). Simple.

I have the same iPhoto library on both Macs with fotostream enabled. I actually gained 1TB of storage for files (that I don't really use).

So, in a nutshell, no regrets at all.

Here's my setup. Still have some cable management to do. The second LG IPS display is running off of the EVGA UV +. Some minor lag but nothing too bad.

Nice! As I also have a 15 rMBP and white iPad Mini wifi and white iPhone 5, I can appreciate this . I also have those soundsticks although they are elsewhere in my house. the original iPhone is stored away in his box and I also use a trackpad. ;).

Enjoy.

Not the best picture, but here goes.

DqAd+

The first picture shows a 13-inch MacBook Pro (Late 2011, 2.4 GHz i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD), connected to a 23" LG IPS237L display. Behind the display is the MacBook's original 500GB harddisk in an external casing for Time Machine-backups and some extra storage.
The laptop stands in a TwelveSouth BookArc and is also connected to a TwelveSouth BassJump 2 (which stands behind the iPad).
Said iPad is a 32GB iPad 4 (Wi-Fi) with a brown leather smart cover (original Apple, although the 'tan' leather has been waxed so that it matches my leather bag and flip cover for my phone).

Next to the Wireless Keyboard, there's a 16GB Samsung Galaxy Note which is my daily driver phone. It runs a stock version of Android 4.2.2, in case you're interested :D
Furthermore, there is a Magic Mouse, Apple Remote and 8GB iPod nano (4th generation) on my desk.
Not visible is a 2.5" 500GB Western Digital harddisk which contains all of my media (films, photos) but that's about it.

This is my little book shelve, by the way, which I use to store all my packaging. I think it's handy to keep all of that stuff in case you want to get rid of it, but since it looks good as well... why not? ;)

I have the exact same machine and they are true workhorses in addition to still handling a good game or two thanks to the Nvidia 320m.

Yeah I just picked it up last week for $475. I had a 15" Core2Duo MBP that I bought new and just sold it before getting a new job that required a laptop. I was using my wife's white MB for a little while but it wasn't cutting it lol. So far I'm loving the 13" MBPs power and portability . Still handles all my apps wonderfully, CS6, Office, etc. Havn't tried any games yet but I've heard the Nvida does a great job.

If you don't have SSD yet, just put it in. ;)

Sorry for the Instagram shot, was feeling all Hipster :)

Waiting till i get paid and i might pick up the new wireless keyboard and a magic mouse, but this combo works fine right now. The wireless keyboard isn't even a UK english one its from an EU country, so the keys aren't even right.

Loving those mini desktop speakers!:D You get lots of people selling their MM on ebay as they don't get on with them, so might be worth a look. I love mine though.

Love the little Apple Mac model. What is it a clock? Do you have a link?

A slight update from my post a few pages ago. Second monitor has been purchased and installed. Holding off on a new Mac mini to use with them until after WWDC on the off chance that its updated (but I'm highly doubtful). Hey, at least I might get a free copy of OSX 10.9!
