I'm sorry to hear about that, but if you want to tell the story, I'd like to hear it.

Story: It all started when my HP laptop's hard drive died. I wasn't sure how to fix it, so I decided to put it on Craigslist and get some money so I could maybe buy a iBook or Tiger or something. Anyway, a guy was interested and wired me the money using PayPal. I sent the laptop out on Tuesday through UPS, and he was supposed to recieve it on Thursday. In the meantime, I was wondering why I didn't receive the money. I contacted PayPal (or the fake PayPal. The guy was responding to me by using the PayPal logo and web design. You would've never been able to tell the difference) and they told me that I would get the money. When it didn't ship becuase the person had supposedly moved, I contacted UPS and told them to send it to a different person because the guy had told me that he would hold it for him. So today after I still hadn't got my money, my mom contacted the real PayPal. The guy from there told us that we got duped, and we immediaetly changed our password and cancelled the credit card # we gave him. I contacted Craigslist and told them that the guy was a hacker of some sort and to report him immediaetly. In the meantime, I called UPS and told them to send the laptop back to my address. That is making the story very, very short. All in all though, the credit card is cancelled and my laptop will be sent back to me shortly. I hope that ******* rots in hell! (Sorry for the language!)

P.S Thanks for listening!
P.S.2. Love your PowerBook! :)

:(

O and that's not even the worst part. He also got my mom's Social Security Number! He could be out there opening bank accounts, getting new credit cards, etc. My mom and I have to go the bank, social security office, and driver's license (he got that also) and get everything checked out! I also Google'd the fake link he had send us and when I searched it, it turns out it was the same link that could easily fool other people! I hope everything turns out for the best and get's settled!

OMG! That's so sad! I hope he gets found out soon and gets put in prison. Until then, be very, very careful. (Goes and takes all info about myself off internet)

Thanks for the support! In the meantime, I'm playing stupid and asking if he even got my mom's SSN#. Hopefully, the crap didn't go through and he will ask for it again. If I ever find out who did this.....

Hey, no problem! We all need some support at one time or another, especially in a situation like this. I hope he didn't get your mom's SSN#. I'm only 13, 14 on the 5th, and I would freak if something like this happened in my close family or friends. Just call the police or whoever and tell them about what happened. Until this is resolved, just keep hoping he doesn't do any damage.

My setup.

Powerbook as in sig, 19inch sony, NEC projector, 200gig FW800, 40gig USB, etc etc. Separate DVD player and PS2 for the projector too.

Nice utilitarian and minimalist setup, but I must ask one question - do you think that you have enough torrent files on your desktop?!?!

Oh snap. I was hoping nobody would notice that. They're all J-Drama files, I watch fan-subs to improve my Japanese.

I recommend the following website: D-Addicts

^__^

I see. Kind of like young children watching cartoons to improve their English...

Well I like the idea of coasters to allow more airflow underneath the PowerBook! I hadn't even thought of that...

Yeah, before I did that, there was a burning plastic smell from the desk. Coasters come in sets of 4 too, so it's very convenient.

Cool user name! "Lee.... looo." Did you know that they artificially enhanced her rack?! The actress has no problem w/ admitting it either. :D Read it in an article about her.

"Rack"... I had to look that one up, because the meaning I knew for that word didn't fit with the sentence (Dashboard really is handy!) :p
The 5th Element is the first DVD I ever owned, therefore it has a special "status" to me...

Yeah... I figured that word would be a bit more "family friendly" because hopefully, fewer people would catch on. It's a really fun movie, if I see it for cheap, I should get it. :D

My setup

I'm a fairly recent switcher. I returned to the Apple fold about a year and a half ago when I bought a use B&W on ebay to see if I could live the Mac way. After I unpacked the g3 I bought it took me about an hour to find the various bits and pieces I needed to put on it so that I could vpn into the office and remote to the various servers I need to support. It's been nothing but fun since then. In fact, as soon as I can afford it, I'm replacing my work provided Dell d505 laptop with a new iBook. :)

In the future I'd like to pick up a cheap sawtooth or dome iMac to replace the G3 as my primary machine and turn the b&w into a web server (replacing one of my nt boxes.) I try to do as much as I can with old equipment. It's much cheaper that way for me.

Anyway, attached is a picture of my current setup. The desk needs to be cleaned and the cables need to be tieded up. I'll gladly take any donations to replace the d505 ;)

I always wonder what happened my B&W. I hope it went to a good home like yours. I used to have lots of old equipment (at one time I think I had 8 computers with none of them less than 2 years old), but now I've sold it all and only have a G5, Cube, and iMac DV (in an iRack). Ok, well most of that is old, but the Cube and iMac are just running as servers, so I've only got my G5 with me.

Here's mine. From left to right are the PB in my sig, Apple Wireless Keyboard, Microsoft Optical Mouse (on Panther mousepad), a 200 GB Segate drive in a 3rd party enclosure, 250 GB LaCie FW800, Epson SP RX500. I figure probably not bad for a dorm room. :D EDIT: oh yeah, thats my 30GB iPod Photo sitting in front of the printer.

I had a mac plus for a VERY short time about the time the SE's first came out. I gave it up and went to pc's. I've been drooling over osX for years now. I always wanted a cube, but just couldn't afford one then. Older machines have been my gateway drug into osX goodness. ;) I've been keeping an eye out for someone getting rid of a sawtooth or an old cube. I would love to score one of those. I've found the B&W very servicable for my uses. A little more speed wouldn't hurt, but that is the way of the world. I am hopeing to pick up a recent era ibook soon. My b&w has an Hawian heritage. I believe I am only her second owner.

That is a very nice looking desk. Very neat. Nice setup. I would never be able too use your desk, my legs would not fit.
:D
