Looks like a BT Home Hub... phone (voIP) and WiFi IIRC.

100% correct. It's my wireless router and VoIP phone that it came with. Streams wireless to the MacBook and a 24"iMac in the lounge as well as my girlfriend's iBook.

The cube and the iMac G5 run off ethernet into the back of that hub. The aerials for EyeTV are hidden rather well as are many of the cables.

It's all hooked up to a huge AMP underneath my desk which in turn connects to two huge black speakers - the top of one being just to the left of the iMac, next to the LaCie drive.

Very cool. Nice setup - very neat.

This looks like a home setup used for one person, so I have to ask, is there any point to owning 3 macs. Maybe 1 with the laptop but i'm wondering what you would do with 3 macs.
The Cube is kinda outdated. I'm guessing he upraded to a better machine because he needed it, and kept the Cube for simpler tasks. A media server maybe?

Very astute my friend. The cube is officially not useful for my work or my hobby of amateur photography, but I keep it as it's an amazing machine and also because I stuffed a 100GB 7200 RPM drive in there to act as a media hub. All my itunes is stored on there (and backed up daily), as are all my videos, movies and TV recordings (which are on a separate external).

The G5 was bought to replace the iBook G4 I used to use with the cube as I didn't need to be portable for work, but I did need more computing grunt by 2004 as the cube was showing it's age.

This year I bought the MacBook to enhance portablilty and to make use of Aperture and any other advantages of Intel Architecture. It also is my first mac with a remote bundled in (good for presentations).

I would like to add that my girlfriend has 2 macs (after only 1 month's worth of conversion!) and that personally, one cannot own too many macs. There's always uses. If someone gave me a mac mini I would find a use. If someone gave me .... ;)

Finally I sell my HyperCube and other machines and buy something new.

All specs in sig.
