what supports are you useing for the laptops? they seem nice... I also need to build a shelf like that... my stuff are in closet and the floor...

Recently added an uMac 17" 1.25 "USB 2.0" to my MDD dual processor. Both running OS9. iMac is stable; MDD not so much. Now attampting, again, to get the d*** things to network with a couple of Macs running OS X and a windows 11 box.

I bought an Apple IMac G5 ISight 20" on E-Bay on Sunday. One of the last PowerPCs.
The following data from the IMac:
Apple IMac G5 ISight 20", 2.1 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM (still, but a 2 GB RAM bar is on the way, so it will have 2.5 GB RAM), 250 GB HDD (also still, I really need to install an SSD), operating system: Partition 1: 10.4.11 Tiger; Partition 2: 10.5.9 Sorbet Leopard

Put in a 4 GB module and treat it to a full 4.5 GB!
Nice! I had the first 20” Intel G5. Had it for over 10 years and eventually gave it away to a friend a couple of years ago. I should check if he still has it. It had become slow and noisy.

it's not loud and it's a bit faster than the G4 Powerbooks, BUT it's historical technology.
I will open it up at the weekend, clean it, replace the RAM and install an SSD. Then we'll see if the IMac then switches to "insane speed".

Here is a small update on the IMac G5.
- RAM upgraded to 2.5 GB
- SSD installed
- PRAM battery replaced
The IMac is very difficult to disassemble....
Quite a rare beast - can count on one hand how many times I've seen them for sale.
its in mint condition as i've taken very good care of it. Its got no cracks, or broken anything, bottom hinge still works fine. I use it daily as it to play SNES9x because the crt makes the games crispy and period correct and not over clear like a LCD
As you can see, the screen is as crips as the day it was made, its likely some voodoo magic keeping this thing looking so fresh
Sadly I don’t have it anymore. I did it in pretty good. It was the liquid cooled one, and the stuff leaked without my realizing. one day there was a loud electrical pop and it fried the system. 😑
My retro-corner. There is couple of G5's, a G4 MDD and a iBook G4 in the pic. My G4 Cube is on the table outside the pic. Other old machines are scattered around the room.
My Power Macintosh 7200/75 with a PCI Sonnet Crescendo 400 MHz G3 processor accelerator card:
and I just installed 2x 1 MB VRAM DIMM modules yesterday, which improved the performance even more, bringing my VRAM to 3 MB out of a maximum possible capacity of 4 MB.

One of my favourite designs - I have the black Pro mouse and keyboard, however the USB port on the keyboard is a bit wonky. Also, I think the white looks a bit more sleek with the Cube. I just need the proper HK speakers to go with it and I'll be set. This setup matches my current M-series set up exactly and I love comparing the two.
Also use it sometimes with the CRT Studio display, although that thing is damn heavy and scary so very rarely does it come out lol

Oh man, I never thought I’d have use for an iMac G3 these days but now you’ve made me want one for retro emulation!!
Kicking myself for a G4 Mini, a G5 PowerMac, a couple of early MacBooks and a G3 iMac I gave away or sold for no more than $15.00 apiece.
Now have a MDD, another G4 Mini, an iMac G4 1.25 GHz 17", and an Intel in a PowerMac alu case running 10.14.
My Macbook Air 11" (2013) will soon have Linux installed since I got my brother in law's mid-2015 MacBook Pro 15". New batteries for both MacBooks on order; SSD upgrade for the Pro on its way, too.
OH boy! (The instructions from OWC and ifixit all say "remove all the components on the 2015 MB Pro before replacing the battery." The battery is quite swollen. The Air instructions don't say "Remove components." Your thoughts on the necessity of removing everything on the Pro for battery replacement.
So I'm lazy. Sue me.
Now if I could figure out how to set up my Raspberry Pi 4 as an internet proxy for the iMac, I'd be happy. Any help is muchly appreciated.

Thanks for sharing this write up — I love to see the G5 getting some regard! Where did you get the power draw readings for the CPU cores? I can't recall, but is that an iStat Menus feature?

The Cluster of POWER (And a Xeon)
After some hiatus, I wanted to post an update as I recently reinstated the G5s into my workspace because the MacPro has been having fan noise trouble. As per the first post, I have a few G5s, this includes a Quad 2.5GHz. I have the late 2005 Dual Core 2.3GHz G5 which was my long-time favourite...forums.macrumors.com
In response to the reliability or defectiveness of the G5 series, I can say I have also had a hit and miss experience. But, I wouldn't go as far as to say the series was defective, so much as to say that they will internally run hot, and parts will eventually be consumed by heat, age, or by some hungry ghost living inside the architecture...
Both of my G5s have bad power supplies, but I keep them around because I love the cases so much. I'd love to install a modern Mini in one of them, with extender cables to the ports, and wire up the power switch and LED to control it. I could fit a number of external drives in the case with the Mini as well. It would be a cool, low powered server that looks very powerful 🤣. I did something similar to my dead Cube, except I took the top off a 2005 1.42ghz Mini G4, bought some wiring with connectors to extend the power switch to a mini switch at the top (which is barely noticeable), and wired a different LED to it, that's now taped on the diffuser. I then velcro'd the Mini without the top on it to the inside, with an iOmega Mini Max external drive/port extender velcro'd across from it. I also taped a 5w USB fan to the top grill, pointing down, to help cool the Mini under heavy load. Best part is, I can always reverse the work I've done, as I didn't use the inner core of the Cube, nor did I damage any of the Mini's parts. Yes, it's absolutely pointless, but it looks sweet on my desk, and gets lots of use as my game coding machine, running OS 9.2.2 and Virtual PC 6.

I wanted to give you an update on my new PPC additions. I'm also including all the other new additions from my Apple Retro additions.
Let's start with the retro Apple iPhones.
From left to right:
Apple IPhone 2G, Apple IPhone 3G, Apple IPhone 4, all three are working. I bought the iPhones at E-Bay or Kleinanzeigen.de at very, very good conditions.
A little gimmick.... Apple IPod Socks as a protective cover
Above you can see an Apple Bluetooth Headset 1st generation. A random purchase on E-Bay for less than 10€...
Next up is an Apple Quicktake 100, bought for a very good price of 50€ on E-Bay and it works.
Next I found the Apple PowerCD on E-Bay. Excellent condition, recognises CDs and plays them (I first had to find an audio CD at home...) and at 65€ I think it's also cheap.
It continues with a first generation Apple TV. Bought at auction for €5 and it works. The only Apple device that uses an Intel Pentium 4.
I have been looking for a first generation Apple AirPort Station for a long time, but never found it at a good price. Now I did. I thought €10 was fair.
Let's move on to the PPC.
Firstly a G3, which arrived yesterday.
Apple PowerBook G3 Wallstreet, 266 Mhz, 64 GB RAM, hard drive ???, unfortunately everything comes on when I switch it on (chime, and then the question mark). So it probably needs a new hard drive. I still have an ATA here that works. Let's see when I can swap the hard drives and install MacOS 8.
I continue with a top-of-the-range G4 model
Apple IMac G4, 1.25 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 20" 80GB hard drive. Found for 50€ including Apple Mouse, keyboard and speakers at Kleinanzeigen.de near a customer. The G4 works, the PRAM battery has been removed and needs to be replaced. The PRAM battery and the new RAM are ready... I will install it at some point.
Finally, the top of the G4 series
Apple PowerBook G4, 1.67 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 17" HI-RES, 250 GB SSD, DLSD, MacOS "Sorbet Leopard".
This has replaced my Apple PowerBook G4, 1 GHz. I found it on E-Bay and bought it at auction for 20.50€. It is completely unbranded and works wonderfully.
