^^Looks cool Gavin.

Here's a question for those in this thread that have Mac towers.

Floor or desk for the tower as your preference?

Personally, I've always preferred the floor. Just something about the displays being centered in my workspace that I prefer and having a tower on the desk (or surface) throws that symmetry off. Goes all the way back to my PC AT 286 days.

Not a big deal, just curious.

I have almost always had my computer tower or otherwise on the desk and only have it on the floor if I don't have the space like the HP under the desk.
recent pic | the eMac is in the basement so I'll get one later of it.

Floor. I bought the black desk for my menagerie specifically for that purpose.

I don't have the space to store any towers on my desk.

When I need to do repair or addition, I pull the required Mac out from under the desk and prop it on a special plastic folding table I keep for that purpose. A second 17 inch Apple Studio Display comes out of storage and goes onto the desktop. I use that second ADC monitor and a separate power cord and network cable to check my installations without having to re-connect everything in its normal place.

Well here is my main setup. I have my main gaming PC next to my PowerMac G5. The G5 is Hooked up to a kind of matching Dell monitor. On the desk I have my two iPod's (one is a 2nd Gen Mini by HP), my PowerBook project laptop, and other handhelds.

Here is my prized possession. My perfect condition, complete in box, iMac G3 Snow White. 600Mhz. Shows very little signs of use. Even the keyboard still has a factory sticker still on it. Bought it for only $20 at a rummage sale around 2 summers ago. It is running 10.2 Jaguar. Which is the stock OS the system came with (Have the install disks).

I like the iMac! Super cool to have a old mac with the original everything. I have yet to have my prize possession!

I wonder if the white keyboard/mouse are original. Apple sold the 500 and 600mhz iMac G3s as late as 2003, so it's.. not that surprising if they did.

Curiously though, they mention it coming with an Apple Pro keyboard and using the old style font.

??? That is a white "Pro" keyboard (look at the position of the USB-port) and that 100% useless-mouse also seems contempary.....

Everything in the box is original. The keyboard looks yellowed but in reality it's not.

lol nevermind. I just saw a white keyboard on ebay with a box calling it a white keyboard. I thought those were just called Apple USB Keyboards, but it looks like they didn't do the name change until they went with the wedge shaped ones.

Cool, and you got lucky it hasn't yellowed! My bro didn't use the one from his iMac G4 much so he stuck it in a box and left it in his closet for years, and nobody in my house smokes, but when we pulled it out like 5 years later it was really yellow. :(

hopefully I'll be having a 12" 1.33 GHz PowerBook G4 come in later this week! I believe it has 1.25 GBs of RAM, and it is in beautiful condition.

Post Your PowerPC Setup

These days I'm using a dp 1.8ghz powermac g5 I got on a trade. Love it and for a 10 year old comp it runs amazing!

Finally got a pic of the eMac
IMG_2415.JPG

updated one of the main desk including the PMG4 Quicksilver. I have tried to hook it up to my other Studio Display but it its now dead and had the power light blinking a lot. I plan to gut it and make a picture frame out of it one of these days. might get another monitor but getting more memory is more of a priority for both the G5 and G4.

Fixed a 12" 933Mhz G3 iBook (famous no video issue) I used a heat gun and many layers of tinfoil to isolate the graphics chip. Trial and error. was ready to give up but on the third try I managed to resink the graphics chip. After it cooled I put new heat sink(thermal) tape on it. Gave that one to junior he still uses it to surf

Thanks to a generous MR forum member I am now back with three monitors! Currently the vid card load out is 1 NVIDIA GeForce 2MX (for my ADC display), one flashed Radeon 7000 (dual displays) and one (still) Rage 128. Currently, that makes the ability to run 4 displays. But I don't have a spare LCD at home, so I will have to bring one home (mine) from work tomorrow and hook it up to the Rage 128.

The same generous forum member gave me an eyeTV 200 and an eyeHome and a 6 port USB 2.0 card to replace my old one that died. So, if I can get my other NVIDIA card flashed that will replace the Rage 128 and I don't need a TV tuner any more. With my Radeon 9800 Pro installed at some point that'll make six displays!

Here we are again!

Three weeks after moving into my new apartment, I finally have my baby (sort of) all set up! ;)
Image

I have a few questions for you, hope you don't mind :)

1. How old is it?

2. When you bought it, did you buy the entry, or have you done any upgrades to it?

3. How many times did you upgrade the OS since you bought it (as in how many steps you taken, ie - started on 10.4 and went to 10.7...)

4. How does it handle modern websites/html/Flash...?

5. How does it handle more advanced tasks like iMovie/Photoshop...

In the Main Desk... The GE dual 500mhz and the dual QS 1ghz.

liked with the speakers and to surf during the weekend... the 1ghz PowerBook.

And some full functional spares. :)

also an ibook hiden in a safe place, jeje.

OH man, you're killing me with all those Quicksilvers!!! I only have one! To have more than one would just be awesome. Best looking Mac (IMO) Apple has ever made!

most of time i use the PC cause is more powerful, but i love the QS so much that i try to use it for most of task i can. love the too, very well designed, reliable and expandable.

Yes I put the Ti in the wrong group.
Sorry bout that. But it can be done with the ram maxed out and the sw to trick the install of 10.5.8
