Nice G3 u got there, that's one Mac which I can't seem to find....u should get the rest frm storage n display it.... U did take out the battery right !

Here's my faithful dual 1ghz Quicksilver next to the two MDDs I've been tinkering with the past few days. The center one is also a dual 1 ghz, and the right most one is a single 1.25.

Since I had all three systems next to each other, I thought I'd run Geekbench on all three. You can see the results for yourself.

This time tomorrow, the single 1.25 should also be a dual 1ghz. I'll be interested to compare the benchmark numbers of what should be two identical systems after I've done the upgrade.

Just got a new addition to my Power Mac Collection. Power Mac G3 B&W 400MHZ. Here are all my G3/G4 towers I have collected. Makes quite the pretty picture.

Also have a Power Mac G5 Quad but using it now ;)

I too have those PowerMacs you have pictured there and just got a G5 dual-core! :) I was gonna get a quad-core, but the sellers sadly had sold their last ones. It makes for a good picture, indeed.

Added another PowerPC machine to my workspace yesterday. Found it sitting unused in one of my classes and decided to enquire about it. Next thing I know, it's sitting on my desk at home!

Image

It's an iMac (17-inch Flat Panel, 1GHz), from the second generation of widescreen iMac G4s. This one has 512MB of memory, the stock 80GB drive, USB 1.1 and currently lacks an AirPort card. Despite sitting unused for so long, it started up without a hitch. Structurally it feels much more solid than my earlier 15-inch model. The school has engraved it along the top edge of the clear display bezel, which is a shame since cosmetically it's in brilliant shape otherwise. I could attempt to fill it with a clear plastic filler of some kind, but I'd imagine the repair would only end up more noticeable than the mark itself.

Now all I have to do is find a space for it and take some photos of it in its new home.

Odd that they engraved the bezel, and very unfortunate for a Mac that's in such great condition. I got my 17-inch 1Ghz iMac G4 for free as well! I put 1GB of RAM in it but it's still weak with Leopard. I wouldn't go past Tiger on the machine. Still a nice one though. My school happens to have one or two of them somewhere. I actually opened up 'Network' on a school computer and wrote down the classroom numbers that had PowerPC Macs in them. xD Just in case.......(found eMac/s, iMac G4/s, and PowerMac G5/s).

I also have a dual 2.0 sitting unused and for sale as I bought the quad core recently. My Power Mac collection is quite extensive and I have to curb the buying. I could probably fill an entire page of posts if I submitted all that I have ;P

Yeah, same with me. I have like 76 computers. How does your quad-core run? I was surprised even at how fast my dual-core 2Ghz (250GB HD and 3.5GB RAM) has been running.

Runs great and fast for web browsing. It was a school computer I believe and when I got it from someone I assume got it second hand it was the most disgusting mac I have ever seen. It had a sign on it saying never to shut it off as it was used to do backups. There was a layer of hair and dust so thick on the fans and other internal parts it could have been made into a carpet! The graphics card was also full of debris so it didnt work unless it was in safe mode. Now I got a new graphics card from an ebay seller I deal with and I cleaned the mac out. It has 10gb of ram and I installed a sata 2 ocz 120gb ssd with leopard on it.

Man, that is awesome! I sadly passed up a $100 Mac Pro 1,1 that had 10GB of RAM. It was on Craigslist... I didn't think I needed it then because I thought my brother was going to give me his, and I didn't think it was at all necessary, but that would have been an amazing deal considering they go for around $350, I believe. My school has a G5 in one of my classes, and it's the backup server. It runs constantly and is probably really dirty. I am really curious to know what its specs are, but I am not able to know.

Bro, just get something modern and with an Intel processor :p

Schools seem to be the best source of free PowerPC Macs.

Haha---speaking of schools with PowerPC Macs, I went into 'Network' on a newer Mac in the school and it listed all the computers on the network and what rooms they were in. I located all the PowerPC Macs and wrote down their room numbers. You know...around.

Thought I'd post my best ppc laptops. Ibook G4 12 inch 1.33GHZ with 768mb ram. Powerbook G4 12 inch 1.5GHZ 1.25GB ram. Great capable machines for basic web surfing.Image

I had that same model iBook a few years ago as my workhorse and daily drive, and I currently have that same PowerBook model for light browsing, writing and DVD's in bed. ;)

So… has anyone gotten FreeBSD running on a PPC Mac? It's fast and still supported. I did that on an iBook G4, but I couldn't figure out how to get prebuilt packages with pkg, so I compiled everything. Took forever. I was only patient enough to let nano compile; compiling gnome2 was going to take way too long.

Added PowerPC Mac to replace my G4 MDD set-up...

So I just bought a 2003 model PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0Ghz, 3.5GB RAM, 250GB HD. Honestly, the cosmetic condition is horrible. The sides of the casing are full of scratches, scrapes, and gouges. However, I have mine inside a cubby and you cannot notice! It was a fine price at $40, considering these go for around $115 in my area. It even came with an Airport Extreme card, but I do not have the antenna and do not want to do the safety pin hack. I use ethernet anyway. I will just put the card in my iMac G4, as it badly needs one. So here I have a similar set-up to replace my G4 MDD set-up. I brought back the second display, which is a 2003 Sony model SDM-HS73. My brother let me have his speaker system, so here I have two nice speakers with a subwoofer underneath. I have a piece of poster board to hide the wire mess! I made a ghetto stand for the second monitor by taping together DVD-movie cases and wrapping them in sheets of paper. (hidden by phone) Poking from in between the two monitors is a lamp with a 7-watt LED lightbulb in it. On the right I have my APC back-up battery with my iSight camera on top of it. My dad, brother, and I built this desk several years ago. It's a long slab of marble on top of a custom-assembled plumbing pipe stand! I removed the LED lights from my MDD and put them on the underside of the G5. I am planning to put lights inside of the Mac once I get the chance. Thanks for looking. (P.S. No, my G5 isn't powered by EVGA :p)

Funny, I thought I was the only one who did that. I didn't do the wrapping in paper part, though.

My setup has undergone drastic change. I'll post pics later.

Yeah, I had just had tape on it before but wrapped it because it looked ugly with my new set-up. I'll standby for pics of your set-up. Mine did too; I just posted this PowerMac G5 set-up recently and I have already dismantled the entire set-up and put it into a different room.

I know this is Linux and not FreeBSD, but they have Lubuntu PPC, which looks kinda promising. (however many problems can arise from installing Linux on a PPC).
