Such a shame that the "Joyce" never received a colour display. Imagine how those games (and productivity software) would have looked? I'm curious, why do you feel that the PCW version of HoH is the best one? Funnily enough, that was the first version that I ever played. Have you seen the Mac remake? I've mentioned it in my PPC gaming thread.

I was being tongue in cheek when claiming it was the best. It's the version I played as a kid. And the green color of the PCW still evokes a sense of nostalgia in me. I have briefly played the full-color Mac remake. It is excellent. But I still prefer the PCW's clunky green version.

I probably have around 50 bits of PCW software, mostly games. The Infocom titles are a particular favourite of mine. I have seven Infocom titles, including Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I think there are around 15 Infocom games available on the PCW. So I am always on the look out for the ones I am a missing but they are extremely difficult to find.

Do you still have a PCW? I actually have a spare copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide (with all the 'goodies' apart from the Don't Panic badge) which I can give you if you promise not to sell it.

Here's a 15" iMac G4 (PowerMac4,2) that the seller is expecting, hoping or praying to get 800euros (that's a cool $US890)!! I wonder what he/her has been smoking?

We've actually been discussing the absurd prices of the iMac G4 in another thread here, it's wild how much people want for them. I've seen some RevA 2002 units going for hundreds USD.

Fair enough. Have you got the DK Sound expansion unit? It makes a big difference! :)

Thanks, that's so nice of you but unfortunately I haven't had access to a PCW since the mid 90s. In terms of collecting, I regret failing to take up the opportunity to grab one for free or cheap many years ago.

I am afraid not. Sound is definitely not the PCW's strong point!

You can still pick up PCW's pretty cheaply. The actual machines are almost worthless. It's the software where the money is. I recently spotted a PCW for .99p on Ebay for collection in London. For your interest, most PCWs for sale need their disk drive belt replacing. It is pretty easy to do, and you can get a belt on ebay for a few quid. There is also the option of a Gotek SSD drive, which replaces the old disk drive. Someone is selling Gotek drives holding virtually every PCW game ever created on Ebay for £80.00 or so. I haven't bought one yet but I am tempted.

If you don't have the room for the actual computer, there is a really good PCW emulator called CPM Box (http://habisoft.com/pcw/index_uk.asp) that works on Windows machines.

Thanks for that heads up: I've placed a bid! It doesn't appear to have the boot disk but I suppose that can be resolved later. The Gotek route seems quite exciting. I've always got the space for additional tech. :D Any further posts I'll contact you via PM to prevent further off-topic derailment.

Here’s an updated view of my PowerPC mancave. Since my move I’ve slowly been reworking it. I’d say it’s about 55% done? I need to build some custom floating shelves, a window shelf-box insert, & rework my closet (not shown) to get my C64 off the shelf & back in action. Still, pretty happy With how it is now with my sitting L-desk set up & adjacent standing desk forming the C.

I scored a nice girly Ldesk from work when our old marketing director moved on & the new gent hired in didn’t want the old (but very nice) girly desk, so I used it as the basis for a nice refresh/remodel of my wife’s office. I got her old desk, and that gave me the Realestate to come up with this design. The corner bit where the blue & white is at is custom fit out of old desk parts, so pretty happy with that allowing me to bring together the two desks in one contegious unit. Anyhow as it warms up, I’ll put my saw horses to work & get building up those shelves & window box. I think it will look pretty sharp when all is said & done.

@RhianB: That's a very nice-looking setup. :) Yay for the two 22in ACDs (what size is the one hanging off the MacBook?) and the portrait screen -- what size is that one?

I love how small the Magic Keyboard is compared to the 'Book as a whole. The top row shortcuts don't work on Leopard, I'll see if I can do something about that. Like on Tiger, ATI Displays is necessary to rotate the screen as the option doesn't appear in the Displays preference pane, even holding [Command]-[Option] when opening it (which does the trick on Snow Leopard and later versions) doesn't do it.

Here's a screenshot of the only PPC Mac I have set up atm (I would like to get my mini set up semi-permanently if possible.) It's my G4 DA in the screenshot. I couldn't get a picture of the machine itself at this point in time but I will soon and post it here when I do. :)

Noticed you have the same trackball that I use with my work computer. I like it, but the ball rollers get dirty easily so I usually have to clean it every few days.

I have found the same thing. What do you use to clean yours? I just stick my finger in there normally, but I'd like to find a better method if possible.

I just use a piece of paper on it, rub it against all three of them until all the gunk is removed. It's also a good idea to wipe the whole rolling area clean, just so any particles don't get pushed back into the rollers.
