Nothing literally. I was browsing the web and I dont have alot of programs running. It was part of the reason I got it because I was able to put it on my lap. Its as hot as my Macbook if not hotter.

Also it was happening today at work and it was on a chilly desk and it was running at 6200 rpm. I hope this is something they can fix with software. :(
like i said mine was crazy last night it now is 52/2496 so give it time:)

Have you tried loading different myspace profiles? or things very processor intensive? What I think is what happens is it'll speed up the fan to no end and it doesn't really know when to stop or slow down. I think its a glitch that can be fixed with a software update. Even I have noticed the super fan speed when I plugged in my external hd into the usb drive. It went up to 6100rpm. I unmounted it and within 10 minutes or so it was back to 2500 or so.

Not to sound negative, but I would think it can be triggered back on lol. Its happening to me every time I plug in my external hd to the usb port on the MBA.

Definitely. They probably know about it already.

I hope they do come out with a fix. I just noticed that the left arrow key is not perfectly flat like the other keys it looks like its up to one side. Is anyone elses like that?!?

It seems the fans kick on sooner than they do on my MBP. The fans are very quiet at 2500, and even at 4000, they are tollerable, but at 6500, they are really cranking some noise.

I was using skype earlier and the CPU was at about 160F and the fans were at 6500 and I almost asked the person on skype if they could hear the fans.

I use skype video chat all the time on my MBP and the fans have never gotten that loud on it.

It's totally looking like a bug that is sure to be fixed in a software update.

I think it might be related to how clean 10.5 installs are really bogged down for a while until the system finishes reindexing or whatnot.

JAVA window hurts!!

Here's my scenario.

I often have firefox or safari open with a live streaming ameritrade stock JAVA window. For sure, the fan goes to max no matter what.

Now I closed the JAVA window, than the fan is back way down...

It seems that running this live streaming JAVA window is pretty high CPU utilization stuff!!

@ spyz88 - my up and down arrow keys are not exactly level with each other, the down arrow is a tad lower than the up one.

Got a replacement MBA. With Safari and iTunes, my new stats are as follows:
CPU 47 celsius
CPU usage 10%
Fan speed 2500rpm.

In other words, if yours is loud for no reason - bring it in and get it replaced. It ain't normal!

Mine is consistenly 53 degree's and around 2500rpms.. I have seen 5k or so when I was importing a lot of stuff off of an external HD, but even at that speed, the fan is whisper quiet on my 1 day old 1.6/HDD...

TDP MBA vs Santa Rosa

NO they won't. The macbook exhibits the exact same behavior and has been this way since the santa rosas came out. No fix in site. I have returned 2 of them for the fan noise issue alone. Must wait for Penryn.

The processor on the MBA is rated at 20W versus 35W or so for the Santa Rosas. They should be a lot quieter than the Macbook. Given the notes on the forums I think that most are quiet and the few that are not have some sort of actual defect (insufficient thernal paste?) in the individual manufacturing.

BTW my understanding is that the Penryn chips are still at 35W. Intel says they are "cooler and more energy efficient" but watts are watts. I don't see how the refreshed macbooks will be any cooler/quieter than the current versions.

always of 6000

My fan has been running nonstop since i got it three days ago and is at 6188rpm and running at 49 degrees for the processor. Any suggestions, is this considered a defect? I can be doing nothing and it will run that fast and is loud.
