you have a 900Mhz G3 Pismo upgrade?! Very cool!

id love to know more about your specific one, does it have the 750FX or 750GX CPU and do you have pictures of it in operation and pictures of the card itself? :)

I don't, unfortunately, and haven't even seen a picture of one on eBay - do you think you could replicate them if there were pictures about? Back in the day it used to be a CPU card upgrade.

I have seen a couple pictures of one, they seem to use some sort fairly basic interpose PCB to adapt the BGA layout of the 750 to that of the 750FX/750GX its hoped that in time we can replicate this :)

How much for a card, and how much for shipping to Alberta Canada?

are you looking for your own card to be upgraded, or are looking to buy the spare 550Mhz G4 Pismo card I have sitting around? :)

since your canada im a bit worried shipping costs/customs etc might be a PITA, so you might be better off talking to @dosdude1 as he is in North america and he does the same sort of stuff I do :)

So, am I reading right? Some people have managed to rock a 900mhz G3?.. I think I'd almost take that over a G4 400/500 on a Pismo because of the Rage 128..

How much for the spare card you have?

The Lombard was my first PowerBook, but I ended up selling it and buying a Pismo that was being clearanced out after the titanium PowerBooks were released. The addition of firewire with the Pismo was a big bonus. I upgraded it to a G4 and used it up until they released the 12" PowerBook G4. Still have the Pismo, though, and it still works fine. In fact, I upgraded it to an SSD recently.

(I actually have a surplus 550Mhz G4 Pismo CPU card ready to go if anyone is interested in buying that)

hopefully this helps :)

Hi,

I could be interested by one G4 CPU card for a Pismo.
If you stille avec a surplus How much for one, and for shipping to France ?

Thanks.

I just got my old Pismo out the other day, coincidentally! I reckon it hadn't been turned on for about 9 years but it started right up, no problems. Wasted the whole rest of the weekend playing with it!

I bought mine new in 2000. I still have the original box and everything. I'm going to have a go at rebuilding the PRAM battery and if that goes ok, I'll give the main battery a go. I recently rebuilt a battery for my Ryobi cordless drill so this shouldn't be any more difficult.

Has anyone here had to replace the PRAM battery in their Pismo? Mine seems to have died and now it won't turn on at all. The NewerTech replacement is a little pricey, but looking at the cost of the VL2330 cells for the DIY option it doesn't seem that much cheaper.

When mine wont turn on I just disconnect the PRAM battery and power it on and then reconnect the PRAM battery

Not quite a Pismo, are us Lombard peasants welcome here? It uses a lot of the same parts... even if it is 66 MHz slower and has worse graphics, it still has a good keyboard!

I didn't know you could still get a NewerTech PRAM battery for these. I did buy one years ago but never fitted it. I don't know where it is now. The current main battery in mine is also a NewerTech replacement but it's completely dead. I'm not sure what I did with the original but I've got a feeling I threw it out! :(

When you say it's completely dead, you mean it won't charge after starting your Pismo? It can take a day to recharge when completely depleted.

Yes, it’s dead. I had it plugged in for more than 24 hours last weekend & it failed to charge at all. The computer does know there is a battery fitted however so I guess the internal battery electronics are ok.

Just as a side note, I was scouring the web today & it seems brand name replacement cells are few & far between & quite pricey also…

I bought one about 6-7 years ago from eBid. Cost me about $12 shipped from the US. Nowadays, I would think whether I really needed one and, if so, would just get the parts and make my own.

Any spare Pismo PRAMs you may come across must really be old stock by now and won't last very long anyway.

Lombards are cool, but weird. I can see their displays and keyboards being good donor parts for Pismos in the future though :)
