PowerPoint and iPhone

Well - I did it today.

I had a PowerPoint file to use for a presentation. I created a movie of the file, converted it in Quicktime for the iPhone, synced it to my phone, and headed off to the meeting. (With a copy of my presentation on a usb pocket drive, just in case...)

At the meeting I plugged into the provided projector with my composite video cable, and then played the ppt movie from the iPhone. I used the pause button on the phone to control the pace of the presentation. It was way cool, and a big hit with everyone at the meeting.

To be honest, everyone was so impressed with the iPhone I'm not sure they were listening to the presentation... (grin)

That's very cool. I would try that, but I'd be busted for using a cell phone at school.

So how exactly does that work? Do you have to hit play to get it to go to the next slide, and then hit pause while it's on the next slide? That seems like twice the work... It should just be one button to advance... so you don't have to pay attention and hit the pause button. It seems like you'd have to pay extra attention. Wouldn't it be hard to move right into the next information/content (as in, start talking right away about your next slide) without pausing to pay attention so that you can pause it? I think the point OP is trying to make is that he did it on iPhone. Which I think it just very impressive. I'd like to have seen it myself.

I'm hoping Apple will make some type of Keynote "lite" app for the iphone for such a purpose. I would definately use this.

I have experimented with this to hooking the iPhone up to a VGA cable due to some projectors being attached to the ceiling (only allowing access to VGA cable threaded down) in some conference rooms. I have discovered you need an external video card box adapter in order to achieve this (converting iphone AV cable to VGA). Unfortunately the box I purchased seems to decrease the video quality delivered from the iphone. Hopefully apple will make some type of VGA cable for the iphone.

that sounds cool. I can imagine apple putting in at least the basic presentation fuction soon. Maybe not creation but at least play.

It would be nice if someone could make an app that you could download ppt files with the downloading plugin, then be able to play it with sendfile...

why not create photos of each slide, that way you dont have to time it you can just hit next when you want to

Unfortunately the iphone only outputs from the iPod application. For some reason the photo section can not be displayed.

and if not apple, it should be developed soon through the SDK by some 3rd party vendor. it seems like it would be a great feature for alot of people.

I would buy such an app in an instant. I would no longer bring my laptop for presentations, just my iPhone.

on a desktop, fire up google then go to google docs.

Upload the powerpoint presentation.

Go to iPhone, go to nifty google mobile front end, click on docs (or more if not present along top row of options).

Click on the powerpoint file.

Tap screen to get advance/go back buttons.

Enjoy google goodness on iPhone.

iPhone does output photos to AV ....Heres how....

Unfortunately the iphone only outputs from the iPod application. For some reason the photo section can not be displayed.

Make sure you purchased the right cable. Composite AV Cable. Its the 50 buck one not the 20 buck one. Connect Cable to RCA Jacks Yellow, White and Red. Connect iPhone. Go to correct AV Input on TV or other display. Select Photos on the iPhone. Select a photo file. They will not immediately appear. Press the Slide-Show arrow. Then they will appear. You can stop the show and you can select individually.

Hope this helps. I do wish Safari would output to AV so I could run the PowerPoint through Google Docs.

This is not true the iphone can display photos with the video output. You just have to play the slideshow and it will display thru the video out. Hope that Helps Out : )

We need to run NATIVE PowerPoint and Keynote files WITH ANIMATIONS to use the iPhone as the ultimate wired and wireless presentation remote. Editing of such native files on the iPhone and iPod touch would be also a bonus. Is that possible?
