hi,
i had some questions about pre ordering ipad tomorrow.
what time does pre-order open?
how quickly did pre-orders sell out in the states?
if you pre-order as a pick up, do you still have to pay for ipad when you order?
was the pre order link on the ipad page or in the store or on the front apple page for america?
thanks heaps! i just dont want to miss out! xD

Apple started taking preorders in the U.S. on March 12 and ended on March 29. The iPad went on sale April 3. Of course, as always, YMMV.

If they take store reservations -- you just give them your email. You pay for the iPad in-store @ pick up. In the U.S. you had until 3pm on launch day to p/u or your lost our reservation.

I might hijack this thread and ask a question of my own :p

When you preorder do they charge your card straight away or at a later date (prior to shipment of the iPad)?

Thanks :)

ok cool, thanks heaps for that information! :D

What time of day did pre-orders start in the US? Should we be on starters orders at 9am do you think?

1) I don't remember the exact time. It was in the morning though.
2) They don't charge until they ship but they usually do put a temporary hold on the funds, so your credit limit may be be reduced accordingly. The hold usually goes away after a few days. Once it gets closer to shipping time they will put another hold on funds to verify the card is still valid.

Poking around elsewhere on the revealed a thread on another forum that said TUAW was reporting (at the US launch) that pre orders would start at 8.30am EST. Another forum suggested that the Apple store online updates at around 3am so be ready for then.

I would think that at least one Apple fan would have been able to tell us what time the Apple store online started taking orders for the US launch, surely ?

8:00AM Eastern is when pre-orders started on the US.

It was in the morning, around 8 or 9. It wasn't that big of an event that it's burned into my memory. I suppose you could Google yourself if its that big of a deal, but big picture, if you order at 8am or 8pm tomorrow it's not going to make a difference.

I can tell you it's unlikely to start at 3am. That isn't Apple's style.

thanks for that info :)

what were worried about is there will be too little units so itll only be pre orders for a few hours or something

Aussie store is down

Right.

As it happens, I did google it myself. That's how I was able to say "poking around elsewhere" and offer the info I found. But nobody seemed to know definitively.
It's a big deal to some of us who might have other obligations like, oh I dunno work maybe ? who would like to get their orders in finally after waiting so long. I'd quite like to have my order in and sorted asap as I would like the camera connection kit too, and they seem scarcer than hen's teeth. It will make a difference to my personal bigger picture if I order at 8pm tomorrow night, as I will be singing in a band at that very moment and I doubt popping off between verses to order iPads is going to go down so well. lol.

Early in the morning I can take time out to order. For the rest of the day until about 11pm (when all I want to do is sleep), I can't without irritating everyone else I have to work with. So that's why I would like the info. It ain't / wasn't a big deal to you, then no bother, but the reason some people ask questions is because, well, funnily enough they'd like to know answers if they can. :)

hey guys, don't mean to hijack but since its pre-order questions why not... since its related.

i understand that those who pre-ordered in the states were guaranteed delivery on april 3rd.
is it the same for international pre-orders for may 28th... if i pre-order am i going to get it on the 28th? i say this because i have an apple store 5 min from my house and i don't want to pre order only to find out i could have gotten it from my store before.

thanks.

1) I doubt Apple would seriously botch the Euro launch by not having at least as many units as it had for the U.S. launches. One of the reasons iPad are hard to find in the U.S. right now is b/c Apple is hoarding the majority for the Euro launch. The preorders may sell out, but not in the first day. If that happens then Apple has a serious supply issue, which it previously said it did not have.

2) Aussie store is down...and? The U.S. store goes down at odd hours too, but never comes back up to reveal new products. Are you saying the Aussie store goes down at a quarter past mid-night and reopens a few hours later w/ new stuff? What exactly are you saying?

3) I would assume so. But if you are that concerned preorder one unit and reserve another. Then you are covered. If the preorder doesn't ship on time go to the store and p/u the reserve -- return or cancel the preorder. If the preorder does ship the reserve will be canceled automatically. Of course this assumes Apple does reserves for int'l stores. I don't think Apple has said they will.

I am in the same boat can anyone in the US let us know?

yeah im sure your right!!!!!

surely apple will have enough stock for at least a days pre-ordering????? if its 8 am its right in the middle of when i cant get access to pre order it lol

Right.

Don't be such a nervous nellie. There was some guy here during the U.S. launch who skipped class so he wouldn't miss the opening preorder salvo. Totally necessary and he probably felt silly seeing the preorder period continue for weeks. That is what I'm trying to tell you -- there is no need to freak out. If you order anytime tomorrow you'll be fine. You are letting all the press stories get to your head. Everyone who wanted an iPad (WiFi or 3G) on launch day got one.

I'm saying I believe it's down because they are modifying it to allow us to preorder the iPad. Apple has said 10 May which is today. The issue is when will the store come up, half an hour or 6 hours...
