Expecting my BTO 21.5" i5 in a few days, not sure if I can be home to receive it. You guys think its a bad idea to leave the pre-sign slip on the front?

My place is pretty safe, I've had stuff delivered and left at the door all the time, nothing's ever happened. I'm more worried about the FedEx guy taking off with my goods.

I pre-signed for mine and just kept checking the delivery status throughout the day. As soon as I saw it was delivered I drove home, put the package inside the house, and then drove back to work.

Keep in mind you can specify where you'd like the FedEx guy to drop it off (behind the house, on the deck, etc.)

The odds of the fed ex guy taking it are about zero, and the odds of a neighbor jacking it are only slightly higher, but I probably still wouldn't risk it given the amount of money thats in that box.

It shouldn't be a problem at all.

If you'd like I could swing by and keep an eye on it for you....Just send me your address and when it should be delivered and I'll make sure its taken care of.

;)

Packages coming from Apple require a direct signature, so that means somebody has to be present to sign for the package, leaving a note will do no good (unless you personally know the courier)... would suggest either having it shipped to your place of work or picking it up at the FedEx facility...

I just work from home on the day I know a big package is being delivered.

Then why does apple give me an option on my order page to presign? BTW when my "free" iPod touch and iPad case arrived last week direct from apple I was able to presign.

You're given the option to presign.

Well then, why ask if you seem to know that it's ok? If you're saying you pre signed for a $200 iPod and all was fine then I'm sure you know best with your $1000 + machine. Good luck to you.

I would be more concerned about it being delivered to the wrong house by mistake. It is uncommon but happens. It is more common then theft by the drivers.

Look I never had a $1800 iMac delivered to my house, which is why I'm asking. I wanted to know what other's experiences were like on the same topic. Don't bother posting if you are going to give an attitude, there are plenty of other threads out there for you I'm sure, no one is forcing you to post a reply here. Others on here are actually trying to be helpful for an open discussion.

I work about 10 minutes from home so I simply pre-signed for it, constantly checked the fedex delivery page, and as soon as I saw it was delivered, I drove home to put it in my house. Also, generally Fedex comes to my neighborhood about the same time every day, so it was easy to guess when I should plan on heading home for a quick second.

I don't think it would be a problem if you signed it. However, it you read what you are signing, it isn't good if it is damaged.

My response with attitude was to your equally attitude-ridden response. I'd hardly call the majority of responses here an "open discussion".
Look, you can presign for the package. Let them leave it wherever you advise them to leave it. Risks are: theft by driver, theft by neighborhood, accidental delivery to another house with no recourse because you presigned.

You pre sign you are saying you got your package. There is very little recourse right away. So look, if you're incapable of taking delivery at home then have it delievered elsewhere. If you're curious know the horror stories do a search and you'll see why the aforementioned are some possibilities.

It could be all right. You said your iPod Touch was ok, which is where your attitude came in. Don't ask a question if you're going to repsond with "well my iPod Touch was ok". Who cares that the iPod was safe, the iMac may not be. I say no. It's what I said in the beginning but clearly you need some sort of dialog over it.

Famous last words. Past performance is no guaranty of future success. Either have it rerouted to your work, pick it up at your FedEx facility, or take the day off to play with your new computer.

I did, talked to my neighbors across the street, when they saw it arrive they put it in the house for me! I would not let it sit there all day though.

I didn't realize Apple had an agreement with FedEx that would offer a pre sign option...If you really feel at ease to have your $1500+ package left at your doorstep go for it...but I personally would have it held at the FedEx station and pick it up there...

Might be a good idea to pick up at the FedEx depot if close enough...
Less chance of the iMac being tossed into the truck & damaged...
Not that the shippers toss around your packages...

NO WAY.

Given the high cost of the mac, and the loss of all of your rights to file a grievance its not worth the chance. All it takes is someone driving by and seeing the large box. Its gone, you cannot complain to apple/fedex because they have the proof that it was delivered.

If you must, take a day off of work, have a friend hand around the house, work from home. FedEx gives you the ability to pick it up at their distribution center as well, so I'd look into that.

I pre-sign for everything from Apple, but a big box the iMac comes in will be pretty obvious from the road. I didn't pre-sign mine, but mostly I was worrying it would drop-ship in the actual iMac box. It was inside a brown shipping box though.

FedEx should let you pick it up that same evening. That's probably the best choice.
