I think the reason for the early “perparing to ship” status is the typhoon inbound for the Guangdong Region where the iPhones are assembled. The typhoon will hit the coast of this region by Saturday evening, so I assume that they wanted to get the phones out of there as quickly as possible. And normally perparing to ship means (when it comes to preorders) that they leave the China facilities for the global distribution centers.

I bought a sim free iPhone Xs Max 256gb out right (cash/debit) on my iPhone x apple store app at 2:07am and it's currently "preparing to ship" and "arrives Fri Sept. 21".

Preparing to ship! My IuP XS Max 512 Space Gray and Apple black leather case are both getting ready to come home! What a great morning!

Every iphone preorder I've ever done I've watched fly from China to Alaska and then to the USA. I think they keep them in China until the last possible minute to prevent any type of leaks or anything along those lines. Either way, as anyone who's impatiently tracked their preorder before knows, they all come from China in batches just before hitting the UPS and fedex shipping depots in regional areas the day before delivery.

Yup. All depends on where you live. Anchorage is the gateway for all carriers. From there, your phone goes to one of FedEx or UPS’s regional hubs with Louisville (UPS) or Memphis (FedEx) as a backup.

Look like all prepare for ship are buying thru apple website not Att.com ,,

anyone att.com prepare yet

I ordered that black Apple leather case immediately as well. Hard to mess with first party perfection

Definitely! I got the gray leather for my 8+ at last years launch but this year the XS Max Space Gray deserves the Darth Vader treatment...

If things are as they have been in the past, there is a mountain of iPhones in a wear house In Tennessee and California.
It depends on who you bought it from. Phones purchased from Apple generally ship from China directly to you. When I've purchased from AT&T, the phone came from a distribution location already in the U.S.

Every phone ends up preparing to ship. This year it seems Apple has mastered the process so more phones get to that status faster. Your phone will sit in this status until ship day.

there is nothing unusual happening.

Hi there! I had AT&T for about 15 years before I decided to leave and join cricket. I was on the grandfathered unlimited data plan and started off paying $75/month. AT&T kept raising their prices and I ended up paying $90/month for ONE LINE! One of my coworkers told me about cricket and I’ve been with them for almost a year and couldn’t be happier! They use AT&T towers so the reception and service is pretty much the same. I’m on the unlimited max plan and I’m only paying $60/month TAXES AND FEES INCLUDED. I know exactly what I’ll be paying each month. I use about 80 GB data each month, sometimes more and so far I haven’t been throttled. Phone reception to me is the same as with AT&T and I haven’t had any dropped calls. I highly recommend them!
Didn’t att buy cricket in like 2014? So on att network anyway?

Yes I believe so. So instead of paying almost $100/month for one line, I’m only paying $60 for the exact same reception/service. Win win for me! :)
What are the downsides of cricket vs. AT&T? Are networks speed/coverage the same? I just pre ordered a sim free iPhone, cricket is looking like something I could do instead of about $100/month to AT&T..

Cricket caps the max speed to 8mbps on the data limited plans and to 3mbps on the unlimited data plan.

It sounds like they are processing the XS model first and eventually the XS Max. Do we have anyone with XS Max being prep. to ship?

My Xs Max SG 256GB version updated to preparing to ship yesterday around noon EST. My Apple Watch Series 4 is still processing :/

Both are scheduled to arrive Friday (which is probably a day I'll play hookie from work, oh Apple lol).

I ordered a Speck case because I had a speck case for the iPhone 6 Plus and I liked it. But I really hate using a case on the iPhone. My iPhone 7 has been case free for over a year and I've gotten a hairline crack near the home button and obvious wear and tear on the phone. If I like the Speck case and want to change it up, I'll probably go with the leather case from Apple because I loved the Apple case for the 7.
