I turned all of my devices off at 2:15pm so we didn’t receive it. Our TV received it at 2:20pm since my son wanted to watch Netflix.

I never got the alert. Half of my class didn't get it either.

I was in a McDonalds when it went off. My office intentionally wanted to be there to see what would happen when the alert went off. Surprisingly all the parents and kids did even really care, but everyone reached for their phone. lol.

Stomach is not to happy though...

I was one of the few that got the alert but no audio.

Should the presidential alert have overridden my silent setting and made noise? This was on an XS
The only way to silence it was to have the phones mute switch on. Having the phones audio muted on my Android phones didn't matter, it still sounded. Only the muted switch being on silenced the iPhones during this.

My amber and emergency alerts are set to off. I still got it. It shouldn't be this way.
You can't disable presidential alerts as this one was.

I got it on my Verizon phone and my at&t work phone.. not sure either made a noise?

They were both sitting on a table in a meeting and I was up drawing on a board... there were 6 of us in the room and it really freaked out our guests from Sweden/France/Italy because they all got it too! I wasn’t paying attention to if it was my phone actually making the noise

I never received the message on my Verizon XS Max. I was in class when the alert went out, and it went off on the majority of people’s phones. Having talked to a few, I believe it (intentionally) bybassed the mute switch and the user set volume

Got the alert, but mine was silent since I had the mute switch flipped on. Not that I would have heard it at work anyway.

Nothing here... Verizon in SoCal. Was actually hoping to receive the test! Guess we'll see next time.

I recall Amber Alerts and Emergency Alerts bypassing it all and still being audible, but strangely enough this Presidential Alert (which was still displayed as an Emergency Alert) didn't override things on my iPhone 7 today and simply vibrated (as I had my phone set to that at the time).

Interestingly enough although this one showed up as an Emergency Alert (even though it also said Presidential Alert in the header of the message itself) it still came in despite having Emergency Alerts disabled.

I was spared the alert... probably because I get lousy cellular reception in my office. Everyone else in my office got it though, so maybe I'm not on the list? :D ...or maybe I'm on a different list. ;)

FYI: you are not supposed to be able to block presidential alerts, so, the normal alert settings don't come into play.

Disagree. This is for major national emergencies; incoming missiles, nuclear attack, tsunami, etc. It supplements the warnings on your TV or radio which you cannot turn off the alert either.

That is the point, it is for extremely rare (hopefully never) uses.

You can't disable presidential alerts as this one was.
What's the point of Emergency Alerts then which are already part of settings (and which this alert actually showed up as as well)?

Tornadoes, etc. Smaller local emergencies which is why you can elect to turn it off. You can't opt out here it's federal law from Obama in 2012. No one bothered to test if it worked for 6 years though...

So Emergency Alerts are basically emergency alerts that are local/state level (and can be opted out of) and Presidential Alerts are emergency alerts that are national/federal level (and can't be opted out of)? Is that the distinction basically?

You can disable Amber and Emergency Alerts. You are not supposed to be able to block/disable Presidential Alerts.
I suspect we will see additional testing. It did not work consistently with my phones nor the phones my co-workers had on them.

That is the understanding they gave at my workplace.

When I inquired with T-Mobile why I wouldn’t have received the alert, I was told you won’t get alerts if you are connected to WiFi calling. Don’t know how accurate that is, but I’m connected to WiFi calling all day at work.
