Ok! A Happy Ending!!! *phew*

I ran AppleJack, and since then, everything's been as sweet as pie! Everything is working perfectly, and at blazing speeds!! Aperture can handle my (reasonably) large image library with its eyes closed and one hand behind its back!

I haven't had the spinning bbod since! I have no idea what was going on before! Maybe the system just got bogged down with all my new app installations and music/image/video libraries being copied and what not!

Thanks everyone for you help and suggestions in my time of need! Much appreciated!!! You've saved yet another Mac user's sanity! :D Hahaha!

Cheers everyone!:)

I'm glad my suggestion solved your issues!!!! your totally welcome...i feels nice and rewarding to help someone!!:apple: :apple: :apple:

Glad you solved it mate ; I'm almost as relieved as you ;)

It's a longshot but Spotlight may have been indexing your HD which takes a while depending on how much data you have, and can make performance choppy.

okay first of all move away from firefox
sluggish ui on the mac
looks out of place
doesn't integrate with the os
it just doesn't belong
not that that's why it's running like crap, but even so

Edit: You'ved solved this already, okay. But just try this as regular maintenance to keep your MBP running nice and smooth:

second, try downloading a program like MainMenu or Mac Janitor to run cron scripts. These scripts are suppost to run at 2 AM or so daily, weekly, and monthly. However, if your computer is not awake at this time, then they won't run, and log files and excess unix stuff will build up and slow down your machine. Download a utility like the ones above to run them manually.

Repair disk permissions, and reboot. Enjoy your new burst of speed.

No doubt it's a problem, considering my specs (in signature), and I only get the beachball of death when I open either iWeb or an Adobe CS2 app.

Sorry no suggestions to offer in addition to those offered by earlier posters.
