Hey Guys,

Im a long time reader, first time poster (just as many first posters here).

I didn't find it neccesary to start a thread before, but today something got my attention that I just wanted to share with you guys. A big dutch retailer is out of stock for almost every Macbook Air option they got, and is says to be ready for take out at next tuesday, the 19th of July. Now maybe it is a coincidence but almost every product you need to order at this place is ready voor delivery or pick up within 24 hrs. Besides, it's not the first time I see the date of July 19th rumored for the launch of these babies.

Go check for yourself, maybe more retailers will show the exact same thing soon.

That is either a very bad slip or an extremely brave marketing exercise

I wouldn't be surprised if the Apple team contacted these guys with an urgent message and that was removed by tomorrow.

Apple PR read these boards.

Apple store managers don't even know when the release will be until they get the call from corporate the night before. That being said I highly doubt a retailer would know. The 19th could very well be right but I doubt they knew for sure.

Well... hopefully it's the 19th! I've been expecting it 21st or 22nd but the 19th would be very nice. :)

19th would be perfect since the conference call occurs that afternoon. I remember Leopard being released at 6PM. Could this be the same? Also, with the no iPhone announcement this year at the usual WWDC, is it possible that apple is switching around their usual release dates for different products? As said above, OSX releases usually happen on Fridays, but since this is the first downloadable one, Apple might change things around, hopefully.

Waaait a second. I looked at that site and something doesn't jibe. That is the new updated MBA? That can't be right because the specs aren't any different than they are now for a customized MBA ultimate. C2D, 256 gigs storage, 4 gig RAM.

The 19th could very well be the day. That's a very likely choice for Apple to go with.

That said, sites like this do that sort of thing all the time. They tend to create an estimate time. They will adjust that time if they need to.

those pictures are not the new Airs.

Don't know exactly the point here.

The point is that they're out of stock, and they say they'll have stock back in on the 19th. However, Apple is not resupplying the Macbook Air anymore, as the refresh is relatively imminent.

It is highly unlikely that they will be restocking from some non-Apple source, as their warehouse likely is where they directly ship from in the first place.

The whole point: On the 19th, they'll be getting new Macbook Airs that are refreshed, because they can't be getting old ones in (it just doesn't make sense that they would be getting old ones in).

That said, my opinion is voiced above in my previous post about this rumor.

And would new Airs ship with Snow Leopard with Lion roaring in this month? I don't think so...

I'm pretty sure Lion will be released with the new MBA's on July 22nd guys (a Friday), if not then definitely the 29th.

Tiger: released April 29, 2005 (a Friday)

Leopard: released October 26, 2007 (a Friday)

Snow Leopard: released August 28, 2009 (a Friday)

The store has no idea. It's not an indication of the day they receive shipment or anything. If it was that easy, then there would never be any uncertainty surrounding release dates.

My guess is 19th, 21st, or 22nd. We're getting it some time this week, and that's a good enough "estimate" for me.

My bet is that the back end system of this retailer just shows that the new shipment (new MBA's) will be in stock from tuesday on, and they just automatically show that on the website. Guess the new MBA's will be out in just 2 days, maybe Lion will follow a little later or on the 19th as well. We'll find out soon enough

By the way, these are not the new systems that are shown, just look at the dates they're expecting them back in stock..

That is not how it works :) The reason you can pick it up on Tuesday is because they don't work on Sunday. So if you order on Sunday your order will be processed and to be shipped on Monday which will lead to a Tuesday pick up in the stores. So this is every Sunday. Sorry to bust your theory :)

edit:
It can still be the 19th though. Apple is presenting it's second quarter this Tuesday, So to get great numbers for the third quarter they need to present Lion and the new Mac line (MB Air, Mini, Pro etc) ASAP. So it could still be the 19th though, but not with your theory...

I dont think they would ever release a product on a Friday because no one ordering online would get it till the week after. Also this is a Digital download so it will be different most likely.

I thought something similar, but was then informed that the iPad 2 was released on a Friday. So no one really has a clue.

It does make sense. They present their earnings and then release Lion and new refreshes.

While Apple obviously is growing, by releasing Lion on the day they have their earnings release, they can artificially make their next earnings release (months from now) make it look like they've grown a TON since the earning's release just coming up.

Companies are always about growth. Growth equals success in major businesses. So I guess they didn't want to make a bunch of money right before their report... instead, make it during or right after so their next report shows spectacular growth.
