Amazon Prime Day is on 7/12/16, or next Tuesday. Can we expect any good deals on the Nexus 6P, Moto X, Huawei Honor 5X, or any popular "Alternatives to iOS and iOS Devices?"

Last year as I recall, the deals on tech were not very good and it focused a lot more on household items. eBay would be a better place to look for deals there. I recently bought a Nexus 6P in mint condition for $370 there.

I think my threshold is $350 for the 6P. Ah, it doesn't hurt to wait till the 2016 models release so I can get a 6P cheap or take the 2016 5 inch model. Just hope it has the HTC 10 style all over it with good build quality, solid sound quality, etc. The specs seem good except the battery size. If it's a LCD panel, might need to get the 6P successor and get an AMOLED display.

The only phones they will be pushing likely is their own "amazon" phones.... the Moto G4(plus) and the Blu with their ads on it.....likely.

I can imagine. I would be over a G4 Plus but no NFC is a big blow. No point in leaving it out, especially since Android Pay is becoming more popular.

It looks like there is a 20% discount on used amazon warehouse deal products as well. I put a set of headphones in my cart and at checkout it gave the discount. It looks like their system is having issues with this for some people though

You can also get $30 off a purchase of $150 or more if you use an Amazon Visa to checkout (promo code: VISA30), and you can get a $10 promotional credit when you buy a $50 gift card (GCPRIME16). I don't think you can use that gift card for a Prime Day purchase, though...

Well, I ordered both. Will give both a test run and return the pair that loses.

You can only apply the VISA30 code once. I did it for the pair of MX's. So after taxes, it's...

Two Honor 5X for ~$261

VS

Two Moto X Pures for $511 (after $30 VISA coupon).

Huge price difference. Almost double the price. The MX would have to provide significant advantages to choose it over the H5X. We shall see...

i think once you use that EMUI skin you will make your decision.....
Then this is for your parents so they will have a learning curve using it too.

GN launcher, I hope will cover it up okay.
[doublepost=1468346233][/doublepost]I have no problem returning the H5X if I have to. Great value if it can be good enough and save me money, but I wont give my parents bad phones. I have no problems picking the MX's for them if it really proves significantly better than the H5X.

I'm shocked 5X is not seeing some Prime prices. Maybe in the coming days...

[Back story: testing a pair of honor 5x and moto x pure bought from prime day for my parents. $120 for the honor. $250 for the MX.]

First Moto x arrived early. White bamboo. Beautiful device. Curve feels great in hand. And the bamboo feels and looks superb. The device is very big though. Really don't think my parents will like the size. However the honor 5x is only a tad bit smaller. They'll have to get used to it.

I'll keep the rest short:

Camera is pretty decent. I'm surprised by it. My expectations were low. It'll be more than fine for my parents.

Software is light and smooth. The processor and 3gb of ram here running MM feels nice. More than fine for my parents. Stock is a bit boring, but that'll be good for my parents (I'll definitely have to do some upgrading tho, like adding a damn battery percentage via the play store).

Everything else is also on the spectrum between decent and great. Solid device.

I think the question will really be, "but does all this warrant double the price?"

I don't know. I haven't gotten the honor 5x yet (coming tomorrow), but the value there cannot be ignored. Plus it has the finger print scanner which is a feature I think my parents will really appreciate.

At more than half the price, this competition is up to the honor 5x. It's his game to lose. It just has to not mess up. If there aren't any major deal breakers, plus the finger print scanner, all at more than half the price? How can I say no to that?

So far, I don't see anything of the MX that screams out it's worth double (the honor 5x really lucks out from the deal!). I guess we'll see.
[doublepost=1468469798][/doublepost]Is there really no way to turn off the vibration of the Moto X whenever you tap the home, back, and app switcher buttons??

I didn't go Moto X because I want a fingerprint scanner on my phones these days. Makes it better than using the old pattern lock. The Honor 5X would be good, but it doesn't have NFC, so I didn't go for it. What I did though is get a 43" Hisense 4K TV for $299 with a free 4 yr warranty upgrade.

Nice. Let us know how you like the 5X in comparison. Just a heads up: upgrade the 5X to Marshmallow while you are doing your testing between the two devices. There is a very noticeable speed difference on the 5X between lollipop and marshmallow. It will help eliminate most, if not, all of the little lag.

So far, the Honor 5X is not bad. Not bad at all. Fingerprint scanner is amazingly reliable and fast. Device is solidly built, too. The gold is quite nice.

The MM update isn't coming through, though. I'll keep trying. But so far, the software is interesting, too. A lot of Huawei's software tweaks are nifty -- my favorite one being sliding along the nav bar to shrink to one-handed mode. Then slide back to push it back to full screen. Could be really useful for a large device. The software is also very iOS looking/feeling with apps in paginated form (instead of a drawer) and the two-pane notification panel. All the transparency effects, too. It is a bit buggy -- minor hiccups here and there, but I'm hoping that's due to apps updating, the phone still being set up, etc.

The camera is okay. It'll suffice. Low-light sort of sucks, but in regular light, it's not bad at all (I think in this area, the MX is slightly better). And boy, that camera software... straight out of iOS!

I'm hoping MM will squash all the little bugs. Still exploring, but so far, mightily impressed by this $120 dollar phone, so unless I discover a deal-breaker (still gotta test call quality, more of the camera, and other things...), the Moto X is likely going back.

PS. I've been trying to "Check for Updates..." in the settings but to no avail. MM is def. out for US Honor 5X?
