So far, the Honor 5X is not bad. Not bad at all. Fingerprint scanner is amazingly reliable and fast. Device is solidly built, too. The gold is quite nice.

The MM update isn't coming through, though. I'll keep trying. But so far, the software is interesting, too. A lot of Huawei's software tweaks are nifty -- my favorite one being sliding along the nav bar to shrink to one-handed mode. Then slide back to push it back to full screen. Could be really useful for a large device. The software is also very iOS-y looking/feeling. With apps in paginated form (instead of a drawer) and the two-pane notification panel. All the transparency effects, too. It is a bit buggy -- minor hiccups here and there, but I'm hoping that's due to apps updating, the phone still being set up, etc.

The camera is okay. It'll suffice. Low-light sort of sucks, but in regular light, it's not bad at all (I think in this area, the MX is slightly better).

I'm hoping MM will squash all the little bugs. Still exploring, but so far, mightily impressed by this $120 dollar phone, so unless I discover a deal-breaker (still gotta test call quality, more of the camera, and other things...), the Moto X is likely going back.

PS. I've been trying to "Check for Updates..." in the settings but to no avail. MM is def. out for US Honor 5X?
Good! So far, you seem to be enjoying it! I told you it was a steal for $120! Yeah, Emui is basically an iOS version of Android. MM fixes a lot of those annoying bugs in LP.

It's funny that you mention the update...I just got the gold one from Amazon today (ordered it on Prime Day--I'm in the US) and I checked for updates and had two of them. The first one was an update for Lollipop and the second one was 1.28GB (which was Marshmallow). In your case, you may have to manually update it this way:

Any word on how it runs with a different rom ? I'm curious if there are stable roms and if the battery life is good when using one. Mine is at home waiting on me

Yes. The best one is CM13 if you want stock Android. It runs just as good, if not a tad better than stock MM. The fingerprint scanner doesn't work on CM13, though. I like Revolution Remix as well.

I just got home and set it up, this finger print scanner is very good. I never use passwords because it is a pain in the butt but I would actually use this scanner as reliable and fast as it seems so I wont root and rom it. I will update to MM and install Nova. How do I install that update? I am glad I ditched my slow 6 mb Uverse and have 200 mb cable internet, that download only took 3 minutes

This drop down notification shade reminds me of ios a lot, I do not like no app drawer.

That download or the MM update didn't seem to work. I went to "load local package" and it doesn't seem to find it. It's in the download folder on internal storage. Not sure what to do next.

Refreshing the check update hasnt resulted in anything on either honor 5x's I have. Weird.

I put the update in the root of the SD card and it worked. Not sure if it matters but try putting in the root of the internal storage.

I don't have an sd card in there. I put it in the root of the internal storage and no luck. It's just a zip file right? Do I have to unzip or anything?

Wish it'd update to MM on its own. Is it something they're still rolling out? How long ago did they push out MM? I'm having a surprising hard time finding info about it.

That's probably your issue unzip the file and put the dload folder on the root of your phone.

Yes. Working now. Thank you.

Looking forward to MM. I'm telling y'all, the more I play with EMUI, the more I'm liking it actually. There are some neat and useful features. Valiant effort. And the design is quite nice although very iOS looking. It's a decent stab at it honestly.

My one complaint is the device is difficult as heck to hold. So boxy. The s7e ergonomicshave spoiled me possibly. Edit: and the MX is amazingly comfortable to hold.

I tried moving the zip to the dload folder and tried unzipping it and putting it in root with no luck. Now it says i have insufficient space and I deleted everything already

I unzipped (extracted) then moved the entire "dload" folder to the root of internal drive. Then went to updater app.

I just reset the phone and unzipped the firmware and will put an sd card in the phone and try copying it to that.

edit: That worked and now it is installing

Even after the MM update, the software isn't completely smooth. I feel like the processor noticeably struggles every now and then. Even under moderate loads. This is not good. It's snappier but in bursts, it feels like. There isn't an overall smoothness like there is to other more optimized skins.

And the camera is really average.

Emui's software features actually impressed me. They have a few clever ideas and tweaks. Ultimately, they're not quite there yet. It's a hell of a valiant effort by huawei though. They can continue to grow from this good start. Maybe if that processor was a bit better.

And the value of this thing really is quite incredible. Finger print scanner is fantastic too.

Still undecided but I am starting to think a pair of Nexus 5x's will do better for my parents. Simpler software, much better camera, and a smaller more manageable device (the honor ergonomics are absolute crap).

And the MX is definitely out.

It's the skin that's holding it back if you are experiencing it on stock...not the processor. I was trying to figure out why I'm not experiencing ANY lag...then again, I am rooted with CM13. I went to a website like New York Times and scrolled through it with zero lag or hiccups.

The Nexus 5X is going for $234 right now: http://flash.newegg.com/Product/9SIA66S4764449

I saw that, too. I wonder if best buy would price match.

Though won't the Nexus 5x continue having even better sales the longer I wait? Could it drop more than that in the next 2 months?

Or should there be more urgency to jump on this Newegg deal?

I wouldn't urgently jump on the deal. It's the best 5X deal that's been posted for a 32GB, though. The other day, Amazon had the Nexus 5X for $150, but it was for the 16GB model.

You could also get a mint condition Samsung S6 for $229 on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...1533153589?hash=item2eec4fe135&rpp_cat_id=103

I've purchased from mywit countless times, and their "excellent" condition is like-new.

Looking for a Nexus 5X in the near future, maybe with october release of new nexus, nexus 5x will drop to $150 or lower (16GB). This is my opinion only.
