Is there a way to connect the Mac to a printer that there is no updated driver for?
Samsung printer. Mac doesn't find it anymore. using os Monterey.
just wondering if someone has found a way to make it work. I have tried all the download driver sites.

I saw this, have no idea if it could help:
also

If that doesn't work, I recall there being "generic" drivers for Mac -- wasn't one named "GIMP print" or something like that?

Do you still have the old (now non-working) driver installed?
You might try this (no promises):
1. Open "Printers & Scanners" (system preferences)
2. In "the list on the left", click the existing driver for the Samsung
3. At the bottom, click the "-" sign and delete it.
4. You want to "clear out" all entries "on the left".
5. At this point, I would reboot
6. GO BACK to Printers & Scanners
7. Now, click the "+" sign again, and see what choices the Mac and OS offer to you.
It -might- find a compatible driver. Again, NO promises.

The first Google result is https://support.hp.com/us-en/driver...r-laser-multifunction-printer-series/17156918
The Samsung Easy Wireless Setup can be run in Monterey like this: download Wireless_Setting_Mac_V1.4.25.zip, unzip it into Applications, from Terminal run
Code:
chmod +x /Applications/Wireless\ Setting.app/Contents/MacOS/Wireless\ Setting
then
Code:
open -a /Applications/Wireless\ Setting.app
or simply right-click in Finder on the app and choose Open.

Thanks, I tried the universal drivers in the two links, but it looks more like malware than anything else.
In system preferences there is no existing driver unfortunately. The list is empty. Even after installing the universal drivers from the links.

Hi
Thanks for your suggestion. I followed your link and clicked download Wireless_Setting_Mac_V1.4.25.zip, and it downloads, but I can't open it. It says "the wireless setting app cannot be opened with available programs".

Any idea why that is?
My MBP runs on OS Monterey, 12.6.2.

If you change OS version to macOS 10.13 on that page (https://support.hp.com/us-en/driver...r-laser-multifunction-printer-series/17156918) you will find Samsung Easy Printer Manager V1.02.07
You can try to install Printer Manager.pkg similar to https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...inter-driver-in-ventura.2378871/post-31922769

Hi
I've tried a couple of times now. I can download the Easy Printer Manager file, no problem. It shows up as a "MAC_Installer" folder in my downloads, and has two subfolders "MAC_Data" and "Mac_PrinterManager, the latter has the Printer Manager.pkg file. I turned off internet and changed the date to April 2019, as it was released in Feb 2019. When I then click on it, I'm guided through installer but when installing it just says "waiting for other installations to complete", and nothing happens. Any idea what causes that and how to fix it?

In the folder MAC_Data from the archive EasyPrinterManager_Mac_V1.02.07.zip is another zip file - PrinterManager.zip, inside that is a folder called EPM that contains the app Samsung Easy Printer Manager. Open it and check if it sees your printer.

It won't open. It says "can't be opened because the developer can't be confirmed. macOS cannot confirm that this app does not contain malware", with the choice to move to trashcan or cancel.

Try from Terminal
Code:
sudo installer -verbose -pkg ~/Downloads/PrinterApplication/MAC_Installer/MAC_PrinterManager/Printer\ Manager.pkg -target /

The command was based on the assumption that you have downloaded EasyPrinterManager_Mac_V1.02.07.zip in ~/Downloads and unzip it in place. If the package is somewhere else, open Terminal, write or copy-paste
Code:
sudo installer -verbose -pkg
press space, drag & drop Printer Manager.pkg, press space, write or copy-paste
Code:
-target /
press Return/Enter and type your password.
