I’ve got the Air 3 but had the Pro 11 for 10 months before I gave it to a very sick relative. The Air 3 has terrible lag and I hate it. I’m selling my Air 3 after Christmas and getting the Pro 11. Save up the extra money if you can and get the Pro 11 you might get a good deal on Black Friday. Or buy a good as new refurb or something that gives you a good discount. It is a great piece of kit it’s a lot of money but if you intend to keep it a few years it is worth it.

Where do you see the lag?

The ProMotion display is nice, and definitely noticeable side by side. But unlike the first time I seen an iPhone 4, the difference to the 3GS screen (and all other kinds of devices) isn't as big to me.

If anything, I kind of avoid the ProMotion because it'll probably make me feel bad looking at every other, lower refresh rate display, including my work monitor and home TV that I can't change quickly lol

That’s what I was afraid of too, now that I have promotion, I can say it changes nothing. I barely notice it.

I feel the same. I think I notice it more when I switch pro-motion off for 10 minutes or so, then switch it back on. Only then do I have an initial appreciation for it

I only notice promotion when comparing side by side with a non-promotion device. Very different story with retina/non-retina.

I don’t know if I even know what pro motion IS. I have just never noticed that much of a difference in iPads. I went from a 12.9 iPP 2nd gen to a 2018 iPad, and used it for 9 months before I bit the bullet on a new pro. There are obviously differences, but in my day to day use, nothing I could likely point out directly.

Walmart has the 11" Pro on sale for $674( I believe Amazon price matches). I went out to get an Air, but I couldn't pull the trigger on it because I keep thinking something new could be announced soon. I won't be willing to spend the money on a brand new pro, but possibly the 256gb 11 or even 12.9 pro will drop in price.

I checked out the Pro, and of course now I can't spend the money on an Air when the Pro just looks so much nicer in use.

I'm too cheap to buy a Pro, and the Air 3 lacks Pro Motion and I can't un-see it. So I left empty handed and bitter. Not a shot at the Air 3 at all, I just can't buy one when Pro Motion is so ridiculously good.
Maybe go for a gen 2, those are still beasts and will be for many more years. They also have most the same tech as the newest iPP. You’d save a lot... or go to Walmart where they have lowered prices by $400.

I’m stuck at what to buy right now - a new 2019 mbp 13 w/512gb or an iPad Pro 12.9 w/512gb storage. In fact typing this right now on a 2016 iPad Pro 12.9 installed iPadOS and let me just say it has zero issues. My mbp 13 is 2015 and still rocking along fine.

The real reason to upgrade to another iPad Pro for me is the facts:

1) iPadOS finally good enough to replace my laptop for daily use but not daily work use
2) pro-motion display just legit.

I’m also concerned buying at the edge of a refresh cycle so I don’t want to flop down thousands just to get outdated hardware (it’s not literally outdated not by a long shot!) - just wanted to put money at max value so timing is crucial.

There are still many limits of the iPad Pro but then again, MacOS in general is also a limitation considering there are tons of PC apps I still want to use (not full time but sparingly) that I have to use in a VM environment.

Promotion is not that amazing. Certainly not the reason to spend almost double.
So get the iPad that fits your needs and don't consider promotion.
If you tell me that promotion is crucial then : a) you are doing somethign crucial to that refresh rate
b) you are crazy :)

So don't be a Bee :p
