6.1" owner here who wants to upgrade to the Max. I always carry my phone in my left rear pocket. Have never had a problem with it bending, breaking or anything like that. The problem I have is it wears a hole in the pocket after about 12-18 months. I think that comes from the Otterbox case. I don't think this would happen if I didn't have a case on it. I'm going to see how the Max fits in my pocket the next time I'm at the Apple Store.
Note - the pocket on the right was repaired with a patch inside. That didn't last long because of the little bit of material that was left for it to grab on to at the bottom.
