Every year someone makes this mistake. Despite all the posts and threads here stating to hold for pickup at a CC.
Which is why it would make sense MacRumors makes a general post on their front page reminding people not to adjust UPS pickups (unless you select a customer center) or it can affect your delivery date.
 
Your package will be delivered to the UPS store tomorrow. Then you can go pick it up. Probably before the UPS dude would even show up to your house. Just start tracking it in the morning, you'll see it.
 
What was weird for me is they wouldn’t let me have it sent to the access point by my house nor hold at CC but I was able to have it sent to UPS locker which is located right outside C.C. and available 24 hours. It says it will be delivered tomorrow. I hope so
Update: Arrived in Oakland for delivery tomorrow. I took off work just in case.

Well I just got an update via text message. It said it’ll be delivered tomorrow by end of day. I checked the tracking status and it is quite specific... never seen this before:

So I guess that’s good news! Although it still doesn’t mention anything about the UPS Store anywhere. But the guy on the phone this morning said that’s where it’s going, even though the tracking still shows my address. Works for me! My irritation has subsided.
 
I reroutes to a ups store every time, no delay. This time I sent 2 phones and two watched to the ups store 2 miles from my house. Arriving Friday, no delay.

I don't have any issue with this. When I have my packages re-routed to my local UPS store, the packages arrive by noon on release day. Basically I think the driver just goes to the store instead of my house.

I’ve rerouted my new phone to store several times. Always got it on original scheduled delivery date. I’ve done the same again this year and expect the same. But, if it doesn’t, they did warn me and it’s only three more days. Besides, the anticipation is half the fun.

Hmm well now it no longer says 10:30 am, it’s back to “by the end of the day”. But it still shows my address as the delivery and nothing about the UPS Store.

So to those of you who have picked up from the UPS Store... Do they notify you at all? Or do you just have to watch the tracking number to know when to go pick it up?

Right. When I rerouted to a store—not our hub—last year, I still got it launch day.
 
Now I just got a text that it “may be delayed due to unexpected circumstances”.

Man, I’ve never had such an issue with shipping before.

They will notify you through UPS MyChoice. My status still says being delivered to my address but I chose a Customer Center to hold for pickup and I'm not worried. I did this for the original Apple Watch and the iPhone 7 Plus. I'm not really worried even though the status seems wrong. It will all work out in my experience and I think I will be picking mine up withing the next 4 hours.

Well maybe it’s not so bad. Email says:


Exception Reason: A mechanical failure has caused a delay. We will update the delivery date as soon as possible.

Exception Resolution: Your shipment is scheduled to arrive today after the delivery commitment time.
 
I see the same thing. Still saying end of day with my address as destination.
Shouldn't be a problem. Mine says this too but in my experience it will infact be held for pickup. The online tracking system just sucks for showing you real updates.

[doublepost=1537536160][/doublepost]Also! For those of you who really get worried. Your status will changed to "Out for delivery". Do not worry, that status is incorrect. It is UPS being bad at giving good information I chatted with someone and this is the result:

"Freddy S: I double checked and yes, the package is at the center available for pickup. I apologize for the wrong information in our website. Our internal system shows it is on hold for pickup."

Well it was saying all day that it was going to be delivered today and of course I waited around without clear confirmation of whether it was going to home or ups store.

Now it just changed to 9/24. Thanks UPS and your garbage tracking/my choice user interface. Amazingly it’s going to take 4 days for a half lbs package to get from the facility 2 miles away to my possession.
 
After years of doing this, it's worth saying: Guys, don't ever mess with UPS once you've ordered your phone. Be home if you can. It's such a HUGE hassle to go to a UPS location, have them lose something, and then waste a whole day chasing a box around.

First and last year doing it. I’ll go to store next time and pick up a reserved phone like I did with my 7+.

Mine was just delivered. Watched the tracking map all day. Had a laugh when I saw the truck parked at a local lunch spot during lunch time.

I had mine delivered to a family member’s house since I’m not home to sign. Worked like a charm.
 
Well, it took direct messaging UPS’s customer support twitter handle but they got the job done. They were able to change delivery to a Saturday drop to UPS Store. UPS Store wasn’t happy they got the package with no notification and wanted to charge me $5 for a pickup fee.

I told them communication issues with UPS and their franchise stores is not my problem and proceeded to tell them how messed up “my choice” and phone customer support is at UPS. Manager felt sorry and gave me package for no fee.

Then I entered wrong Verizon PIN and spent 30 mins with online support fixing/activating phone. That eff up was me of course.

But finally typing this from a 256 GB Gold XS Max! Pretty nice upgrade from a 7+.
