still no problems...

I have been using my 17" MBP for almost a week now... and I still have ZERO problems with it. I am sorry for those of you that are having problems, I do think those are isolated problems some of you are having... I think the majority of us that have perfect MBPs are not speaking up... They are happy with them and have no reason to complain... For those of you thinking of picking one up.... My advise is do it.... this machine is unbelievable....

picked one up today, been using it for about 6 hours and not one issue. Screen is beautiful and bright. I have it next to my 2405FPW and it only looks MARGINALLY less bright. When I had my 17" PB (1.33) up next to my 2405 it was night and day. Gotta love this machine...wow

Thank you for your posts everyone - it is great to hear both the potential problems the new machines are facing, and the fact that some are coming out fine. Personally I read these forums to get a good indication of what potential problems I may be facing with a new machine and greatly appreciate the time and effort of those who post their experiences.

actually, i do not care for the company. it will thrive or die on the strength of its products and creativity. i do care that what i buy (from any company) is not defective. the screen problem which i described would, perhaps, be tolerable in an $800 general purpose notebook; it is intolerable in a $3k professional-grade video workstation.

to apple's great credit, it has performed well in responding to the problem; however, having just returned the replacement for the first MBP on account of the same substantive problem (non-uniform brightness with hot spots at lower right & left and a "bar" across the bottom of the display), i surmise there's a design or manufacturing defect. the operative word is surmise. having replaced once, apple is now trying to repair machine #2. i remain optimistic, but guardedly so.

the reason some of us post to these forums is to be assistive to others. your posting is, by contrast, more vituperative than assistive.

I agree with regard to the utility of these posts. While some may consider them to be "whiney" or excessively dramatic, I personally look to them to see what others are going through with these new computers. I'm currently debating whether I should purchase a 17"MBP and I would prefer to hear from people regarding their problems.

I'm quite certain that the people who post here do not do so with the belief that any of us will be able to help them. I think they post here because the know that most of us, as fellow mac users/fans, are interested in hearing about their problems, whereas the rest of the world couldn't care less. A support group, of sorts... The point is that these threads end up being rather useful to the prospective buyer of any given new release from Apple...and if you think about it, that's really great. :)

umm..

All you people who are saying that the people complaining about their posts are stupid because they won't get any help here, you're wrong.

They will certainly get help in the form of talking with others who have the same issue, and knowing that it IS a known issue. See Apple is full of crap ok?

I'm on my second defective MBP. The first one had constant kernel panics since day one, this one has fatal trackpad/keyboard issues since day 1 (not momentary lapse in response.. PERMENENT death until reboot, and sometimes the machine won't reboot).. and i noticed the heat problems too.. the whine is a non-issue and I agree people who got their laptop for music are fools if they complain about it. I have a small pair of E-MU studio monitors and when playing back music at a decent volume on studio monitors. the whine is NOT AN ISSUE.

However, back to my point.. I have called Applecare and talked to several people. SEVERAL techicians, and asked if this was a common problem. They ALL replied that they've never heard of this happening before.. and also several employees at the Apple store replied the same way. Do you really think Apple is going to be honest and say? Yeah, people are returning these left and right?

That's another way that these posts are NOT useless because now because the majority of people seem to be having problems with the 15" MBP's I am thinking of trading this in for a 17" MBP since less people seem to have issues with those, and there's the FW800 port, and there's the 120gb HD stock, and I know someone in person who says they haven't had problems with theirs.

It is quite obvious those peoples' posts have greatly helped me. Apple will not help you broaden your vision to the truth of what is going on, they will simply offer to repair your laptop. If you want a replacement you at least most definitely HAVE to ask for one, they will not offer it, and I am sure a refund is much harder to get.

which is another reason why I will ask if I can return this and get a 17" by paying the difference. Again, my MBP is ONLY 2 weeks old, and the only reason i didn't take it back immediately is coz I decided to work with Applecare to resolve the problem, and then they themselves said it's a hardware issue and to take it back to the Apple store for repair, NOT a replacement. you have to ask for such things.

Now I personally welcome anyone to "flood" any forums with their problems.

No problems here, either

15.4" MBP 2.0, 512mb ram. It does run a little hot (52 idle, 76 load), but no whining or mooing, and fast as the day is long.

This has been discussed before. The trackpad has the same "problem" on the 15" models. Luckily it's a simple fix. Go to System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Trackpad -> untick "Ignore accidental trackpad input"
Thanks, had the same problem. Fixed now :)
