Hi,

i ordered my nMP on Jan 3rd and payed with paypal.

sadly apple still hasn't charged my account yet. Since I read in another thread that after a month, paypal cancels standing orders. Then, Apple would file a new order, and you would presumably go back to the end of the cue.
That would be an absolutely unacceptable practice, as it would repeat itself over and over again, plus I really need this machine by february since I sold my imac.

I called paypal and they claimed they couldn't do anything about it, and that I was supposed to call apple. Can only call apple again on monday.

Anybody else had a similar issue (and resolved it?)

I ordered mine later in the day that ordering opened. Mine has not been charged. You got a few weeks yet I imagine.

PayPal told me the time runs out in two days!! I'll call apple tomorrow and report back..

Apple is operating correctly since it is standard practice and possibly even law that the credit card not be charged until the item is close to shipping. This is PayPal's fault and not Apple's.

Well it's still sitting on my desk but someone is waiting to get it during February...

I called apple twice.
The First Lady said they could change the order to credit card and then everything would be fine.
I called the credit card company and asked them to raise the limit.
Then I called apple again, and the 2nd dude said his colleague gave me wrong information and they can not change a pending order to credit card, but I'd have to place a new order.

Instead he advised me to wait and just let apple place a new order at paypal, once they cancel my money.

I'm 100% sure something will go wrong and in the end apple will say it was my fault and I will get the nMP on March. Idiots!

That's near the same they told me, a pending order can't be changed. I've placed a new order (at the phone) - but they didn't offer me paypal this time, as this is a not so safe way - with this new order I payed the nMP in advance.

Status of the new order changed today from "waiting for money" to: delivery... march. But 'til this point it was expected, they told me they will try then to get the delivery date from my first order (which can't be processed, because of paypal) to the new one.

Let's see what happens...

Please send me a pn or answer here if they have been able to merge the orders...this is SO frustrating!
I upped my credit card limit for the entire February. Did they offer you to pay with credit card?

They offered me to choose between "pay in advance" and credit card - but I won't up the limit of my CC, so took the "pay in advance" way.

I'll let you know asap if anything changes at (one of) my order(s).

I called again today, this time I got a more friendly apple employee who at least offered to try calling finances and changing the payment method to credit card, but couldn't make any promises.

That's what they also tried to do for me - but without any luck.

Got an info about an hour ago: can't do anything with the new delivery date... Ladies and gentlemen... I have to wait until march.

Congratulations, that's the price for being one of the first minute buyers. I am happy.

Seriously?
I can't believe how they treat us as pro customers, paying such immense amounts of money!

Did you try to speak to a manager?

Of course I'd rather have them take my money right the moment I hit purchase. It's a rather big temptation to spend it on other stuff during two months of waiting , seeing it sit there on my bank account.

But that's not the point here. I mean, c'mon, they shouldn't offer a payment method that will just plain simply not work!
It's not my fault not knowing about the querks of paypal's or apple's booking system. I expected the money to be booked right away, together with my keyboard and mouse.

Now I will most likely have to wait until march for the machine? Amazing!

Why on earth are you using Paypal instead of a CC? Apple charges the card only when the item ships, not when the order is placed.

Because my credit card has a limit at 1500€ and I've never had ANY problem with paypal before. It's really the most convenient way to pay on the web I think.

Maybe it's a European thing but I like to only spend money that I actually posess on my bank account and try to avoid the CC whenever it's possible cause it always shocks me at the end of the month when that credit card bill hits me.

Why not use the CC and then pay it off with the cash, I don't trust paypal, its not a service I always use. Its convenient for small purchases or stuff on ebay but generally if I can't use a CC, I'll not use it. I think (though I could be wrong) but credit cards offer more fraud protection and many credit cards can extend a warranty which is a plus.

AFAIK, Apple will charge the account when the order is processed and/or shipped. I know they put a hold on the funds for credit cards and then charge the amount which can result in a doubling of the amount for a short period but I'm not sure they do that with paypal.

Well, I already called my CC company and asked them to raise the limit, but they will only do it for one month as well.

So if I had done that at the beginning of january, I would run into the same problem in february as with paypal.

I'm a student and they won't give me a 7000$ limit so easily! I really never ever had any problems with paypal before. This is obivously apple's fault, offering a service that won't work together with their way of booking the money.

I just called again, this time the hotline guy promised me, finance controlling would call me back today to initiate a change to credit card... but I think he just didnt have a clue what's going on and wanted to get rid of me...

We are using Paypal because Apple has offered it - and if they offer it it has to work. Simple.

Don't forget that CCs aren't in every country a common option to pay with, limits here are often lower than "you" have and you have to give them good arguments to get a higher limit.

Also some may have a balance at paypal... why not use it?

Saying that because Apple offers PayPal as an option it "has to work" is ludicrous.

Would you blame Apple if the credit card company declined the charge because they thought it might be fraudulent? No. Is it Apple's fault that someone's credit limit is $5000, for example, and the charges were $5001 and the credit card company declined? No.

Likewise, we knew when ordering the Mac Pro that there might be a gap of one or two months. Apple is very up front about not charging until an item ships, which (as some have suggested) may be put in place to comply with governmental regulations. It is not standard business practice in the United States to pay in full for an item which will take a long time to make or to deliver. PayPal is not the most user-friendly outfit when it comes to what they will and will not do, and in this case, I argue that it is, in this case, PayPal's issue and not Apple's at PayPal's apparent policy not to allow an open transaction for more than 30 days.

The credit card company will only raise a limit for 30 days? I'm sure if the credit line is not abused, one could argue with the credit company to keep the limit up another 30 days if the computer still does not ship.

Blame Apple for that for which they are responsible: they may very well have made shipment promises they can't keep

(...SNIP...)

That's not exactly the same - if the limit of my CC isn't high enough it is my fault. If they offer paypal and notice (and they HAVE noticed it!) that they are running into a problem with it, they have to react and offer a solution - not just wait and see. It is not _my_ fault, I have done everything needed to fulfill my part of this deal - Apple's part was to make sure that the offered way to pay really works, which doesn't work right now.

To be honest, of course problems can occur - **** happens! But not having a solution to solve it, that's really poor! I called customer service immediate when I noticed that delivery of nMP will be _after_ the date when the pending Paypal transaction will expire - they told me "no problem, you'll just get a new mail from us, asking for a new paypal payment", I asked if they are sure -> "yes".
Now, that isn't possible, no chance - well, they offered me to make a new order, choose a different payment method. So far so fine, they told me they will switch my old order (read: delivery date) to the new one. So far so fine. What happened? After they got my payment, they told me "sorry, we can't do that, it is not possible - please wait until march, have fun with your new MacPro".
Seriously... That's not my fault!

Anyway, we needn't discuss this out, this is something between me and Apple. And they agreed that this is their fault, they haven't reacted in time.

I agree with you: I'll blame Apple for the shipment promises they can't keep, which are the reason of the now existing problem :)

Look, I don't care who's issue it is if I pay such an amound of money for a computer! I just want apple to figure it out instead of just LYING to me on the phone about them doing something about it which is clear not the case. You make it sound as if it was our fault not to have used the CC in the first place.
Now that is ludicrous if they us paying with paypal. Like I said, I never ran into any problems with paypal ever before.

How is anybody supposed to know about this 30 day limit with paypal? This is the first time ever that I had to wait longer than 30 days for anything I ordered somewhere on the web. Usually stuff gets paid right away and then delivered..

This is what smokey the bear told me long time ago, "only you can prevent a scam."
