What was your replacement process like. I was told I would get an email with a printable return FedEx label inside 12-24 hours and I should wait 12-24 hours after I send it to call Apple with the tracking # at which time they will begin to build my BTO replacement - approx 2 days to do that, and once ready, they will ship it ground again, though I may get it 2 day instead. That seems like more waiting than it should be.

Im in the same boat as you. I called last night to get an exchange because my 20 inch had some issues. I was emailed a return label with 5 minutes. I put the iMac back in the original packaging, slapped on the label, and dropped it off at FedEx this morning.

Apple told me that the tracking information is automated to the warehouse. Once the warehouse gets my tracking info in the system within 24 hours, they would start the process for my replacement. I did ask for free 2 day shipping because the first machine had issues and they upgraded me for free! Although, I can't get true 2-day service because it's originating overseas.

FluidMusic, what location are you getting service from? If I'm reading your initial post correctly, then it seems you're shipping the item from another country. I may pick up the new iMac and I will probably have to take it overseas (the Caribbean). I'm really worried that if something goes wrong it will be a nightmare to get it repaired. My reason for keenly watching this thread.

I had to call again this morning to get my label sent to me, and then called right after I dropped it off to let them know it was shipped and gave them the tracking info. maverick808 said that they gave him the option of a direct replacement before the original even went back though I have never heard of that, seems like someone bent over backwards. When I did call back I was told my new one would ship Aug 21-23. That's a week away. When I ordered last Wed, it shipped Fri. Now it's going to take a week. I would think that replacement units should go to the front of the line. They have already charged my card whereas later orders don't charge till they ship. So concievably I'm behind everyone who has ordered since my original order? When I ordered my config was 3-5 days, it now lists 5-7. However I think it may ship sooner than expected. I was hoping Apple would say "OK, you sent it back, we will build right away and expedite shipping, you'll have it by the end of this week, sorry for the trouble" In the end they did offer me faster shipping this morning, just no idea on build time so I just have to wait to see when it is "prepared for shipping" and does ship. Truth is while I want it to get here I would rather wait a few more days over getting another machine with issues.

Technically, I'm not getting service. I was offered service on my iMac 20", but decided I wanted a 24" instead. So they basically, let me refund my 20" and order the new 24" at the 300 dollar difference. They have a pending charge for the 24" and pending refund on the 20". I still have a "alert" on my order saying the the warehouse is waiting for my machine, but I was told this morning and last night by Apple that my new machine would start the process within 24hrs.

To answer your first question. My iMac return was sent to California, and the label said something about "returns" and it had an RMA, so I'd assume it isn't serviced.

It would be nice if Apple would put us in the front of line because we've had issues, but I guess it's not going to happen. In Apple's eye I cancelled and order and ordered another. But I do agree, they can take longer, just as long as I don't have bad pixels!

I understand. I thought that you were not living in the US and Apple sent you a return box to your country. I know in the past they would not rend those return boxes to customers in certain parts of the world. I thought the policy had changed. Thanks

Ran into a huge problem (in my case, anyway).

Rosetta applications will not work on my brand-new machine (20" 2.4 GHz aluminum). That includes the pre-installed Office. This is, I think, thanks in part to the problems with the 10.4.10 update. Apple's first solution to the "Rosetta not working" problem is to run the 10.4.10 Combo Updater (Intel), but when I attempt to run that it says "This volume does not meet the requirements." Same for the 10.4.9 and 10.4.8 combo updaters so I cannot backtrack. Their second solution is to run a line in Terminal, but that produces an error for me and Rosetta still does not work.

This is a huuuuuge issue for me because I use Quicken quite heavily and I can't run it now. Why in the world would my computer not be able to run the 10.4.10 update again? Makes no sense to me.

Anyone else unable to run Rosetta stuff on the new iMac? Do your Office apps run? :'(

I'm not running Office (deleted it), but I am running a really old version of Photoshop Elements (2.0) successfully. Bought it for my old PC 4+ years ago, and it had the Mac PPC version on the same disc, so I'm using that until Adobe comes out with a UB version of Photoshop Elements.

As for the original question, I bought my new iMac last Thursday and have had zero problems. As a new switcher, I already know I will never go back to a PC! Love it.

Noticed this thread, and wanted to add my experience.

I bought the new 24" 2.4 gHz. After about 2 hours of World of Warcraft, I think my iMac overheated. The results looked like a screenshot in this thread.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/341432/

A reboot fixed this. Another user in the above thread noticed a similar problem. Actually he's the one who posted that picture in the thread. I was wondering who else has noticed this problem too.

I have had the new 20" 2.4 ghz since Wednesday and installed office 2004 and it works fine. Did you trash the demo first? If I remember from past problems it works ok if you have deleted the tria version l first and then do a complete re-install of office.

It took doing an Archive and Install to get Rosetta working again. Now I can load Quicken and such no problem. I dunno wtf was wrong the first time, but it's fixed for now at least. *phew*

Had One Issue w/ iMac, one w/ new Airport

The DVD was formated to work in another country and had to be reset for US Dvd's (you can only make this change 4x for the life of the machine). It was a simple fix.

Also had an issue w/ the new Airport Ex. It took 45 min on the phone to figure that out (its the new Airport).

iSight not working on new 24" iMac

My friend just got a new iMac and everything seems good except the built in iSight does not work. The green light comes on but no video. I have tried photobooth, imovie and ichat. I even reinstalled from scratch hoping it might help, but same issue. I guess I will be on the line with applecare in the morning.

I got the 24" yesterday and it's a beautiful machine. I popped 2 x 2gb DIMMs in it and it smokes.
My main box up-until-now was a 17" MBP with the matte screen. I was a little concerned about the glossy screen on the iMac but, no worrys, I don't even notice it. The screen is AWESOME! Oh, and my MBP is louder and hotter than the iMac!
I walked in to buy a new imac....but backed away slowly and bought a new MBP...style or lack off....was not for me :)

PS the new MBP are quiet and cool..... :)

Had one for three months and I have never wasted so much time on the phone trying to make this machine work. Apple replaced the hard drive after a month and computer died after 3 months and they have now replaced it. Have problems with my new replacement computer freezing often. Some programs shot unexpectedly. Commpatibility issue with windows. Virus problems that Apple has told me I need to buy antivirus program for Mac. Canot see any advantage over windows computer except for better look and more expensive and less reliable.

My 20" imac frequently gets this horrible what can only be described as a jittery screen -- so bad that I can't use it at all -- kind of like static with a series of horizontal lines that scroll really fast and then the rest is fuzzy and jumpy. I'm really disappointed as I don't seem to be getting anyone who knows how to fix it. The only thing that works is to wait a minimum of 20 minutes or completely shut down and restart. I think I'll be asking for a replacement. Additionally, it can take over a minute to wake up.

Mine does this when there's a phone near it, especially a cell phone. I don't suppose that could be your problem. If not, I'd just take it in and try to get a replacement.
