Hey all,

I am torn between using 2DO or Things - any one have any experience with these apps? Money isn't an issue seeing as how I am quite forgetful of things and I need a good to do list. Or if you have any other honourable mentions that would be great too!

Also, which news apps do you guys use? I have CBC news, Reuters Pro and NPR.
 
Things is pricey but nice. It's quite simple to. The only issue I've ran into with Things is that if you make a scheduled event, on the day of that event, no badge on the application will appear unless you actually open up the app. Which sort of defeats the purpose if you need to be reminded to do something on a certain day.

Never tried any other to do app so I can't give you any other opinions.

Btw I don't know if you use RSS feeds but if so, Pulse is the way to go.
 
Have you considered Awesome Note? The notification / reminders and google synch work well.
 
I use ToDo and its fine, especially for the price. The challenge with when syncing ToDo across multiple devices. They only way they support this is by using Toodledo as a cloud service. On the whole it works fine but I find the checklists get unbundled when syncing across to my iPad and MBP. For example, I had a checklist of three books I wanted to buy. After syncing with Toodledo it became unbundled (my term) and I had four tasks, one for the parent and one for each book. This makes the checklist functionality in ToDo useless to me. Not a huge deal at the end of the day but I like that functionality and wish I could use it because now I can't.

If price were no object I would get OmniFocus it really is the best overall as it syncs effectively with MobileMe which is a huge benefit. Problem is the pricing.

Mac: 79.99
iPad: 39.99
iPhone: 19.99

Too expensive for what I would use it for.
 
I just checked out the 2Do app and it won the best app ever award - looks pretty nice too and it is a lot cheaper than Things - any word on 2Do?

I use 2Do and I like it. It does show badges without opening the app. I don't use it on different hardware, just my iPhone so I don't know how syncing will affect anything. Has some cool features on the notes/reminders you make for yourself. I'm not a huge user or very in depth with the program, because honestly right now, I don't have a whole lot to put in a to do list as I'm in between jobs and awaiting a deployment.
 
nice it shows badges.. thats good - and I don't need it to sync with my macbook.. just as long as I have it on my iphone.

I think ill check out 2Do - cheers

I use OmniFocus for iPhone and it's been very effective for me. Having used it and looking at other task managers, I don't think they are comparable.

Take 2do, for example - seems to organize tasks by categories like "family", "work", etc. It doesn't really matter what category an action item falls into when it comes to actually doing something, so why would you group it like that? Most tasks apps seem to group apps like this or by stuff you want to do "today".

OmniFocus groups tasks that are related roughly in the logical order in which you have to complete tasks. Then you can view tasks by "context" so you will only see next task. For example, if you are at your computer, you can see everything you can do while you are at it, no matter what category it is.

It's got fantastic customer support and the app is updated often.
 
Settled on AwesomeNote....

After reading tons of reviews and testing out the demos of 2Do and AwesomeNote, I finally settled on AwesomeNote for my to-do lists and notes (replacing Apple's built-in Notes app). I've been very happy with it and I use it for work and personal. The only thing missing is the ability to add a voice note, but I think that's in development for a future version.
 
hmm hard decisions - I don't like the look of 2Do.. Things has bugs right? omnifocus is too expensive.. sigh
 
If OmniFocus is too expensive for you, I'd recommend Appigo's ToDo (I don't know if Things is buggy or not but I have heard that it's not well supported by the developers).
 
I've been putting off getting one of these types of apps for a while. Your thread has reignited the thought in myself! haha. After reading through this thread I decided to go out in search of awesome note, todo, 2do, things, and tootledo.

I've basically narrowed it down to 2do and awesome note. I just downloaded the lite versions and now the testing shall begin! :)
 
just checking in to mention that so far awesome note seems far more productive and intuitive, but I won't decide quite so quickly.

Also, I am curious the differences in how they sync. Awesome Note says they use google docs and evernote to sync, but I am unfamiliar with how either of those work... can anyone fill me in?

How does 2do's sync work?

Do either of them sync directly to iCal, both on the iphone and/or on my mac? (I suppose you only really need one of the two)
 
Pocket Informant. It'll sync to the native calendar in the very near future, and it's nice seeing both events and tasks for any given day.
 
I'm still undecided.... Awesome Notes is really nice, but there are still some problem areas.

  • No sync to iCal (or any sort of calendar/task system). It only exports as a document
  • Repeating events only show up once (the next one) in the calendar and even if you complete the task the next one won't show up till you pass the date of the completed task.
  • Maps can't search locations. I think you can search for cities, but it is very difficult to use...
  • Assorted bugs. In my brief time playing with it last night and this morning I managed to find many inconsistencies and bugs. Maybe like 6 or so issues, nothing major but still feels less than polished (Ex. when on the "week" view and you have a particular day selected it shows all of the notes/tasks listed below it. but if you scroll to another week and then back to the original week the original day is still selected but the activities don't show up. You need to select on another day and then back to the original day to be able to see the activities. Also, while in calendar view if you rotate orientations it pops you out of calendar view and you have to click it again. These things aren't deal breakers, but when I found 5 or 6 things while just tinkering around today it doesn't sound promising)
  • Other needed features. This one is the least of my worries, but there are still some things that I find myself wanting. Simple things like highlighting, being able to write text under/between photos, quickly adding multiple photos, being able to add voice recording, and a few other things that I can't think of at the moment.

I'm just always so indecisive :p
 
I heard that ToDo is very good, by Appigo - might go for this one.. syncs with Toodledo and is only $4.99

2Do interface looks lame
Things is way overpriced $9.99

but then people are saying that todo by Appigo is buggy too...

**** - I think I might go with Things.. but is it really that bad? argh I dunno so lost

oh yeah. When I originally searched for todo I didn't find the lite version. Giving it a whirl now! Seems pretty well done! I feel like there is a much broader functionality in awesome note, but this one is definitely far superior for tasks, plus it seems much more... consistent? Maybe that's the word I'm looking for? More put together purposefully and not a lot of bugs and not thought out things like I saw with awesome note. although I admit at first I'm a bit overwhemled by having tags, context, and lists (all seem like different ways of doing the exact same thing) and the starred, focused AND priority levels (again seems repetitive).... I'm sure there is purpose for these things, but I just need to figure it out.

Also, export to iCal? Is that possible?
 
I think so - syncs with Toodledo which is a cloud program - anyways, just got ToDo and I love it - really easy to use and not too expensive either.
 
there is calendar view in the app yes - youtube a video of it.. its really well made

That's true, but there's no option to view them all on a calendar. I even synced it to my macbook, and yes it technically synced it to my iCal, but it synced them as "tasks" (makes sense). I've never used tasks before I guess. But they don't really show up on your calendar. They just go off to the side in a list format. So I don't think there's really any way to view them all on a calendar. I'm not saying this is make or break for me... but it would be appealing to have one.

I guess I'm still wondering if I would rather have this or awesome note. I guess I need to figure out exactly how I'm going to use it, because the functionality from the two apps is pretty different.
