Professional-Sounding Ringtones

Anyone else baffled as to why Apple only included one true ringtone with the iPhone (Old Phone)?

I'm not a fan of ringtones that sound like songs, or ringtunes, and I find that if I use one, either I don't notice my phone is ringing, or it just sounds stupid if it rings while I'm at work or with colleagues. I guess I shouldn't have chosen "Baby Got Back".

I'm looking for some professional-sounding ringtones, and I thought that a thread may be a good place for other iPhone users to share what they have found or made. And, sorry, but "Who Can It Be Now?" by Men At Work doesn't count as professional-sounding.

I hope this can become a useful thread for everyone.

You can always rip off ringtones from other phones. I plan on doing that with my motorola.

I've been using the ringtone heard on the iPhone commercials. To me it's the most professional sounding. It's in here somewhere. I wish I could post the thread link for ya.

So basically, what it looks like, at least from the limited submissions from today, is that my two choices are the Old Phone ringer or the high pitched chirpy ringer.

Great. I must say a sarcastic 'thanks' to Apple for the awesome ringer choices they provided with the iPhone. What did they think, that I was going to spend 99¢ for a 'Low' by Flo Rida ringtone so that when it rings at work during one of the occasions I forget to turn the ringer off, my patients think I'm an idiot?

Maybe when they rolled out the corporate plans, they should have updated the included ringtone selection?

You realize that if you iPhone is jailbroken, you can take any sound clip you want, change the extension to .m4r and drop it into your ringtones folder via iPhoneBrowser or any other SSH program?? Easy fix for your problem bro.

Actually bro, you don't need a jailbroken iPhone to create your own ringtones. You just need Garageband and some sound clips. I understand that. I've already done that. I thought that maybe there were some good ringtones out there that I haven't heard or maybe some creative people have created some new ones and would want to share. You realize that that was the point of this thread, bro?

Here is one that I made in Garageband, it is just a standard ringtone. I wish they would have made some better ones but they are pretty easy to make or adapt using Garageband.

OK - I've read the Apple Support instructions as to how to create iPhone ringtones with Garageband. I'm familiar with using Garageband, so this shouldn't be too difficult for me. But I've got a problem. I've dedicated my Mac Book Pro to be used only with my music equipment (home studio). I have a Windows PC for all my other usual stuff. Thus, my iTunes is on my PC and I have synced my iPhone and iPod Classic to my PC's iTunes. Is there any way I could still create a ringtone in Garageband on my laptop and get it into my iPhone via my PC?

How about this:

I was thinking, would there be any interest if I made a website with most of the 'other' ringtones from other phones, already converted to a format the iPhone will reconise?

Just gauging interest at the moment

That would be fantastic. It's surprising that a site like that doesn't already exist. However, there may be copyright issues- the rings may be owned by either the manufacturers or the carriers. Before you decide to go forward with that, I'd say look into the legality of it. We wouldn't want you to get in any trouble

It didn't seem like you were trying to help from the way you wrote your original post (above). It seemed like you were talking down to me and trying to show me how ridiculously simple my 'problem' is, and how easy the fix is. I just need to "realize" it.

In my response, I was merely trying to point out that the point of this thread is to post professional sounding ringtones. If I wanted to know how to make them via your method, I would have done a simple search and I'm sure a dozen threads would have shown up.

A search on google for "midi ringtone" brings up 799,000 hits. You could try "nokia ringtone" or whatever as well. There are bound to be some "normal phone" tones among that lot, just drop the midi file into Garageband, mark a loop and share to iTunes. I don't really see the problem.

Good news and Bad news

Looks like the content is copyright protected so offering these converted on a site would be illegal.

The good news is: Tonight I am going to look into putting a app together that will convert a music/sound file into a iPhone ringtone. Something like, select file, click button, ringtone appears on desktop . No promises but I should be able to knock something together within a hour or so.
