It didn't seem like you were trying to help from the way you wrote your original post (above). It seemed like you were talking down to me and trying to show me how ridiculously simple my 'problem' is, and how easy the fix is. I just need to "realize" it.

In my response, I was merely trying to point out that the point of this thread is to post professional sounding ringtones. If I wanted to know how to make them via your method, I would have done a simple search and I'm sure a dozen threads would have shown up.

Thank you for contributing, bro.

Okay, well I'll be the first to apologize for my tone. I in no way meant to sound condescending. I did this search a while back and am using the Motorola "Classic" ringtone and a Nokia text message alert. I had no way of knowing you were aware of this method.

A search on google for "midi ringtone" brings up 799,000 hits. You could try "nokia ringtone" or whatever as well. There are bound to be some "normal phone" tones among that lot, just drop the midi file into Garageband, mark a loop and share to iTunes. I don't really see the problem.

*sigh*

Good news and Bad news :(

Looks like the content is copyright protected so offering these converted on a site would be illegal.

The good news is: Tonight I am going to look into putting a app together that will convert a music/sound file into a iPhone ringtone. Something like, select file, click button, ringtone appears on desktop :). No promises but I should be able to knock something together within a hour or so.

That's what I figured. That app sounds like a good idea- simple is good, maybe with an option of choosing the length of the ringtone (0-40 seconds). I wish I had skills like that, but I guess I'm just a consumer when it comes to stuff like this.
Keep us updated Scott-UK.....

Nice work, msmith2112. I made the same one as 'Cell Ring', and called it 'Chirpy Ring'.

I've also been frustrated by the lack of good ringtones (ie. not meant for teenage girls) especially considering apple prides itself in being detail-oriented. I just downloaded the 24 ringtone and I like it so when I get home tonight I'm going to give that a try. Never watched the show by the way.

I would actually like to have the default Cingular Ringtone or the old Nokia ringtone. Also, how hard is it for someone to just make a series of ringtones using instrument 254 on a MIDI device. That is why MIDI has it, it is nothing but ringtones.

TEG

I really enjoy the Nokia ringtones that have an echo...resounding theme to them any suggestions?

OK I think we have a basic app.

I could do with someone testing this out this for me, if you are interested please drop me a PM with your email address. Alternatively I am on iChat for the next hour or so (AIM account) ScottoMacUser.

Requirements are Leopard, iTunes & Quicktime. I could ideally do with a test from Non Quicktime Pro users

I'd love to help you out, but I'm a PC user.

I use the Sonar ringtone that comes with the iPhone, and I think it sounds pretty professional, or at least not childish. It's also quite piercing so I can hear it even if I'm not in the same room.

It's also really easy to make your own ringtones. The best way (IMO) is to use QT to export a song/sound clip as m4p then just change the extension to m4r.

Well, forgive me. I thought from this:

I'm looking for some professional-sounding ringtones, and I thought that a thread may be a good place for other iPhone users to share what they have found or made.

I thought that maybe there were some good ringtones out there that I haven't heard

that you were looking for other sources of ringtones. However, it appears that what you actually want is other people to make them for you, since you're clearly too busy/important to spend 5 minutes with Garageband....

Part of the problem with making your own ringtones is the limitations of the iphones speaker when playing them.
Anyone got any idea what frequency ranges are best removed to help the speaker avoid distorting?

Yes, I am a very busy person. I haven't had much time to spend making my own ringtones. I wish I did have more time. If I did, I would make a bunch of ringtones and post them in this thread for people to use. I never asked for people to go make me ringtones- this thread isn't necessarily for me. I thought that this would be a good place for people to share the professional sounding ringtones that they have already made or found. I'm very aware of this "google" thing you're talking about. However, this thread is about posting ringtones you've made or found, not about telling me to go search google and all my problems will be solved.

Thanks for contributing.

Manufacturers ringtones ready for the iPhone are now available from my blog.

I have converted a large selection of the most popular ringtones from Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Palm.

Also, I have managed to convert the 'iChat' ringtone to use on your iPhone.

All available here: http://www.scotto.co.uk

I'll make a new thread for this so that everyone gets to download them and not just you guys who are checking this thread.

Aww, you took them down from your site :(

A quote from your blog: "Seeing that I host this blog on their .Mac service I decided to remove the ringtones."

One has nothing to do with the other. You are still free to post them on your blog. It doesn't matter that you use .Mac. They are just being dicks. You clearly aren't posting them for monetary gain. They just don't want you to post them on an official Apple site- their Discussion threads. If you would have just posted them on this site, you would never have received an email from Apple. Actually, based on their email to you, it looks like you can post them there as long as you write: "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.".

Anyway........ here is a site that I found that has a plethora of ringtones that you can download for free and then convert in Garageband:
Linky. Credit to speakerwizard for the link.

Enjoy....

Another one of my threads back from the dead..........

Anyway, I've been using the (old) theme song to Hockey Night In Canada. Screw professionalism. :D

Oops sorry! Didn't realize how old it was I found it on Google! Hockey Night in Canada is a good ringtone for work! Just make sure you don't reveal you're a Habs fan if your boss likes the Leafs (or the other way around). That could be trouble! :D

Nothing to apologize for..... your post was relevant to the topic.

I am NOT a Habs fan..... that should be obvious from seeing my avatar.:D

Good Ringtones you may already have on your Mac..

Although not specific "ringing" ringtones, I was able to create some more pleasant, less pre-teen ringtones using Apple's own F/X loops supplied as part of iLife '09.

Located at the following path on iLife Mac's: library/audio/apple loops/apple/iLife Sound Effects/

are folders that contain folder with various sound effects files. The folders contain many very clean stingers and ambiance loops that are already cut into small samples, many available in 5, 15 and 30 seconds, mainly for use in iMovie, etc. They are very clean, high fidelity and can easily be converted into MP4r fles and then copied into the rightones folder.

Some ones to take a listen to: Pendulum, Time Lapse and Investigation. The "Long" versions are perfect length for ringtones.

I think that "Brontosaurus Wail" looks perfect as a ringtone.:D

I make my ringtones from some of my MP3s and sometimes I download ringtones from the crackberry site. :D

I convert and/or edit them using the using the audiko site.
