With the intro of the new (and final?) Intel iMac, I have added "Nano texture option" to all the screens in my fever dream of ASi Macs...!

Yes I want this..!!! Even though it is expensive.. because anti glare is an important factor to me.. and current macbook anti glare is kind of a joke.. because OCD people love wiping their screen with wet wipes and there goes their screen..

No iMac?

I like that you return the non-15"/16"/17" machine back to not being "Pro". The fact that the 13" MacBook Pro has "Pro" in its name is laughable considering that it has never had discrete graphics and (save for two generations in 2009 and 2010) has always had weak Intel Integrated graphics that are anything but Pro-level.

Also, you're dreaming if you think that Apple will ever do SSDs that aren't soldered onto the logic board on anything that isn't either an iMac or a Mac Pro ever again.

Read the first post again, the Mac mini can be attached / inserted into the back of any of the three Apple displays I list, instant iMac...!

I never said the SSDs would be servicable in my line-up. But, Apple currently has non-soldered SSDs in the Mac Pro (just not 'standard' NVMe M.2 SSDs), and they sell upgrade kits on the Apple Store.

And with my scheme of having HBM3 on the package for the Pro line-up, all memory would be soldered, in my fever dream line-up.

When it comes to RAM or storage, buyers would need to purchase what they want from the jump...

You said "blades". "blades" in the context of Apple SSDs implies the kind of drives we saw in 2010-2017 MacBook Airs and 2012 to 2015 (Retina) MacBook Pros, also, 2014 Mac minis and 2012-current 21.5" iMacs and 2012-2019 27" iMacs. With T2 and Apple Silicon Macs, that goes bye-bye. Similarly, you're not seeing them in the 2018/20 Mac mini ever again either. Your best bet is the iMac Pro, Mac Pro, 27" iMac and whatever Apple Silicon replacement is to come for the 21.5" iMac. But even then, my guess is that they won't be removable on anything that isn't the Mac Pro. Though they're removable on the iMac Pro (and probably doable via the same procedure for doing it on the Mac Pro), Apple definitely doesn't support that kind of an upgrade. The joys of iMacs.

The modularity of a Mac mini with a monitor to make an iMac is interesting. Apple has too many desktop models for how few users buy them (outside of the Pro/production space); certainly it would make sense on the lower-end to consolidate the 21.5" iMac and Mac mini into one model of computer. Given the 24" iMac rumors (especially those that state that it is a replacement for the 21.5" iMac and not a replacement for both the 21.5" iMac and 27" iMac), I'm guessing Apple won't walk that path. But they totally could.

You said "blades".

These are the blades I am thinking of...

The modularity of a Mac mini with a monitor to make an iMac is interesting.

Like I stated at the beginning of my original post, back to the OG 2 x 2 product matrix!

iBook (consumer laptop) / MacBook

iMac (consumer desktop) / Mac mini (with Apple Display)

PowerBook (pro laptop) / MacBook Pro

PowerMac (pro desktop) / Mac Pro Cube

My scheme still retains the 'iMac', but does not kill off the Mac mini!

Regarding soldered on stuff; ideally Apple would give us a suitable minimum RAM & storage (which would be soldered on), but have provisions to add RAM or a SSD "blade" to expand the system. But we know that ain't gonna happen! ;^p

Looks like Tile Memory is back on the menu, boys...!

We don't know how ANY of this is going to work for the Pro Mac offerings yet, but acronyms are fun...! ;^p

Come on Apple, give me a supercomputer workstation with the best graphics in the universe, all stuffed in a new Cube with manageable thermals...!

What about a "MacPad" the current iPad Pro enclosure with an extra usb c port but with apple pencil and magic keyboard support(probably with function keys on the version 2). I'd take that over an Air or a 12 inch Macbook. Can that be a 5th category? That's my dream Mac that would be announced late 2020 or early 2021.

Mac mini - starting at US$699.00

That's one hell of a dream or as Tim Cook would call it a nightmare! Apple will never go down to $699 on the mini. I really like your ideas though!

What would I buy?.... Probably some version of the MacBook. I have a Mac mini so it's possible I would upgrade at some point but even if it had a significant performance improvement a MacBook would be my first purchase since I don't have one now.

So a Mac mini seamlessly integrated into your choice of Apple displays; 24", 27", or 30"...
By that definition, a MacBook is just - A Mac Mini integrated into your choice of Apple displays; 13" or 16"

However you still that a MacBook???

[edit] Please edit your poll so it better reflects what an actual possible in reality line up.

Now you are just getting silly; a MacBook is a laptop, different form factor. If you do not like the idea of attaching a Mac mini to the back of an Apple display, then find another thread to crap on...

And no, I do not need to change MY poll just because you don't like it...

I'm not being silly. It's literally the same internals as a Mac Mini with a small screen.

You can't have it both ways. An attached screen either is or is not a different form factor. It can't be both at the same time.

Really a headless Mac is a different form factor to an iMac.
The whole attaching it to the back of the screen is what makes it a totally different form factor.
I'm ok with attaching a Mini to the back of a screen, just like you are. I just realise doing so fundamentally changes the form factor of it.

A lot of people prefer the Mac Mini specifically because it's headless. Because it's a different form factor.

I don't know why you hate the iMac so much. Even Apple understand their iMac is fundamentally different to a Mac Mini + an external screen. Apple also realise the form factor is different too.

I'm not crapping on your topic here. I am just pointing out the flaws in your argument.
