Public Beta 2 ok as daily driver on iPhone X ?

Hi guys.

Ok I have resisted updating to PB 2 from current iOS 11 version this last week , simply because I got married on Saturday just gone & had music on a playlist for the ceremony & didn’t want to run risk of any playlist or music mugs.

Anyway , I’m now thinking of jumping on board. I’ve previously waited for PB 3 or 4 , but the good seems to outweigh the bad with iOS 12 betas.

I have an iPhone X & I know what works for some , may not work for others.

I’ve also read the first post of bugs etc , however was just asking guys whether besides those , which I can live with maybe , are there any show stoppers on the X that’s making it hard for you guys to use.

I need to be able to make & receive calls , is this stable ? Likewise I know that it’s messing iMessage up for some , bug I tend to use WhatsApp most. Also does the email app Spark work ok ?

I’m certainly not updating to the watch betas , so does the beta work ok with the watch not running the beta 5 ?

If you only have one phone, it is not advisable to run beta. If you do decide to roll the beta dice, make sure you make an encrypted archived backup of your phone before installing the beta. Also familiarize yourself with DFU mode and how to restore via iTunes. I also suggest downloading your current software, just in case you need to restore. If any of this sounds foreign to you, do not proceed.

iOS 12 feel so much like iOS 11 to me so I don't even want to install the beta on my daily driver phone and just wait for the public release.

I only installed the beta on my 2 iPads for the new iPad gestures and iPhone X feeling. But other than that, its almost like iOS 11 for me. Even the performance at this stage is barely the same as iOS 11.4 (again, from my own perspective)

iOS 12 dev beta 3 is much improved over iOS 11 on all of my devices.

I've been using PB2 on my X as my daily driver for a few days. No issues on my end. Based on the apps I have downloaded, everything seems to be working. A few crashes here and there but nothing drastic. I'd stress "based on the apps I have downloaded". All it takes is one rogue app or setting to make everyone's experience different. If you're hesitant, wait for 3 or 4. We should see 3 by next week.

On my iPad I’m loving the iPhone X feel, the performance is much better than the 11 PB. Thinking of putting 12 on my 8 plus.
 
I have not had too many issues on my X - just a few hiccups here and there. I downloaded it on my daily driver and I am not looking back. It definitely feels a lot like 11.4.. but faster and my 8 year old loves the memojis!

I echo what's been said above and add the following: its been pretty good for me. Some issues with getting phone calls to connect in Dev Beta 1 and some significant GPS issues in Dev Betas 1 and 2. So if you are in a remote tropical paradise and don't know the area, I would not do the beta.

It's been running well on my iPhone X for the last couple of weeks. I haven't noticed any improvements in speed or fluidity, but it hasn't given me any problems.
 
Dev beta 3 has been pretty nice on my X so far. For the things I do on a regular basis, I haven't had any problems that are unlivable. A few graphical glitches here and there (those are rare), but that's about it.

As many others have pointed out, you may want to see if apps you depend on show up anywhere in this thread:

Along with all the usual caveats (have a good backup, be prepared for things to not be perfect, etc) of running a beta OS on your phone, I don't see a problem with running the current 12 beta.
 
I have beta 3 of all the developer betas running on my daily drivers. Few quirks here and there but otherwise running great.
 
Any issues related to HomeKit and iCloud syncing? That's what worries me the most—crashing apps I can handle, but email/calendar not syncing properly and HomeKit devices not responding scare me.

I haven't noticed any syncing issues (calendar, etc). I don't have much in the way of HomeKit devices, but my pair of HomePods worked just fine with my iPhone X running dev beta 3 (same as pub beta 2).

using the latest 12 public beta on my iPad pro 9.7, no issues as of yet that affect my usage. Seems reliable enough that I may use it as a daily drive on my phone. Really like the performance boost.
 
If the OS release is labeled with "BETA" at all, it's NOT ok as a daily driver, IMO.

I've followed the threads each year as these betas roll out. Inevitably, every release has issues, some of them big issues. They don't happen to everyone, but they happen to enough people that you can never be sure what experience you're going to get. Why take the chance? New OS releases are great, but rarely do they contain a "must have" feature that can't wait for a couple months for a stable release. Heck, even the final releases often have issues that aren't solved until the 0.2 or 0.3 update to come in November or December.

The whole reason I chose iPhone over Android is for high performance reliability. Why would I mess it up by installing unfinished software?

well its a BETA until Apple releases it as a final. There is a due date for 12 for when it becomes a final, usually tied to a new iPhone. It then magically is no longer a beta regardless of what issues remain.

Is software really ever finished?

Only consistent issue ive found was the weird unresponsive invisible row above the keyboard.

Other than that haven’t found any major bugs. The gps issue is fixed.

What carrier are you using, having app problems with betas is inconvenient but having phone problems would be a problem.

I just installed 12 PB on my iPad mini 4 and no problems so far.
 
I've been using betas on my daily driver for a few years. Usually jump on around version 2 or 3. Have never had any issues. Currently researching to see how 12 is doing. I may do a backup and go for it soon.
 
I would say that depends. I ran public beta 1 and 2, and had the same problem on both. Most of it was working great for me, and the apps I had installed on my phone, all worked just fine. I was coming into a game breaking problem, constant loss of connection. I am using the X on AT&T, so I am not sure if this is just a carrier issue, or a problem of the beta. Texts and picture sending were all spotty. I would be connected to WiFi , and my carrier data on, but opening chrome would give me no connection errors, and apps would not open.

I am back to 11.4.1 and everything is back to normal. But it is a beta after all, and I liked what I seen so far. I will miss the new animoji and memoji lol.
