Hi there.

Despite hearing the facts that a refresh is soon (March, April bah.)

I pulled the trigger and ordered a 27" i7 iMac. This is my first Mac.

After reading the news about thunderbolt, I know it will be used a lot in the future, but for now, we only see devices using Firewire and USB.

Here are some reason I decided to get one now, and not wait:

1- Gaming? I have a PC/ other consoles
2- CPU: I guess it would last a few years since its an i7
3- New FaceTime HD camera? Don't think I'll use it that much.
4- Bluray? Not a chance IMO, Apple wants your credit card used at the iTunes store.
5- HDMI input? Not needed.
6- Im in Kuwait, no i7, highest model available here is the i5, priced at 2700$ :eek:

Now of course since I already did purchase, some may say why would you want comments if you already made your mind. Well, I just would like to know your inputs :)

You purchased an excellent machine; it's going to last you a very long time, and it sounds like it will serve your needs very well.

Congrats on your purchase, and welcome to the Mac family! :)

where did you order the 27'' i7 imac ? how much it cost ?

You can get a converter to input HDMI, by the way. They are a little pricey but work well.

Yeah I've read about them, but I don't need to use the iMac as a monitor for something else. For now.

But I guess the i7 is good for 3 years at least of photo and video editing as well as programming?
 
well even if current iMacs are monsters I still think its reasonable to wait for new line now:
1. We still dont know what Apple will present in new iMacs,
2. You can still buy "old line" iMac when new will be introduced but cheaper :)

My vote is: Wait if you can

brachson; The current Mac specs are more then enough for my uses. I agree, we don't know what Apple is going to add, but I don't expect a big change. I'm happy with the current specs, even though Light Peak is a nice feature, but I don't think we'll see many devices using it in the next few months.

bo-waleed; This is the high-end model bought at Apple price. So the model you saw on eBay probably was either used, or not the i7. I bought mine from Amazon, don't think I'll ship it back to return it, you know, $$$ :)
 
You'll love it

I've had my 27 inch i7 since they first came out and I just love it. It's a beast and the screen is insanely good.

When this issue of "wait or go" comes up think about this...In the technology world there is always something bigger, faster, better within a week of when you buy your thing. If you had waited, the same would be true then.

Enjoy your machine, you will love it. Someone will enjoy whatever comes next but that won't take away from your enjoyment.

the one on the ebay was the high-end model too. (27'' i7 4GB Atl 5750)

returning option is good because the 27'' imac have many hardware issue.
 
decided not too wait

I bought mine as well, 27 in i5 3.6 GHz I'm not much into video editing, but I think if I wanted to I could do it. I was able to use my developer discount, even though I got a nasty gram saying I couldn't and I should have it by Tuesday. And seeing as though I have to start a project next week for one of my classes and sometimes I like having a bigger screen than my 15" affords...
 
TigerMe; I agree. I used to do this with other stuff. I always wanted the best out there. But now, it really hurts to play that game. Like the specs, and are they enough, buy it. And enjoy. Whatever comes later you don't need currently, so just enjoy what you got :)



bo-waleed; that high-end model was probably the 2009 model, not mid 2010.


Maverick713; I really hope you enjoy yours. Sometimes things happen, but thats life. And I guess the 27" offers a lot of real estate :cool:
 
If it's gunna last for years, then why not wait 1-2 months for the refresh?

Maybe it's going to be an awesome refresh?

yeah that's what i am doing.

i already have late 2008 MBP and i think it will last for 10 years or more.

Kinda all depends on your requirements, finances and what your wanting the iMac for, personally I'm waiting myself for the refresh as my usage will be media, photo and movie editing and of course gaming in the evenings so wanting that refreshed gpu.
Just that it looks like Nasty Devil is gonna have everything he needs in what he's bought so probably done the right thing and at the right price ;)
