There’s many ways to do this including a new app so why did they decided to do this 😭 this gotta be the dumbest thing.

I’m gonna need a setting option to disable this. When this is released a lot of people are going to hate this

One thing I missed about my Clicks Keyboard was being able to invoke spotlight search anywhere from any app. We can do that now without a keyboard. I personally like it, but I can see how some people wouldn't. I’ve accidentally invoked it more times than I’d care to admit.

Agree with this complaint. I can open Siri by swiping down from the middle of the screen (either a home screen or lock screen) so hijacking the top-middle pull-down is really irritating.

It also helps to highlight just how crap Apple's Notifications system is - on both MacOS and iOS. On iOS, one shouldn't have to pull down a lock-screen just to get a compressed and overlapped mess of notifications. Yeah, I'm having a rant.

Because you can’t swipe down for Siri when you’re inside the app, that’s why they added swipe down from the middle.

Personally I love it as I can swipe for Siri wherever I am without pressing the button if I don’t want voice input.

There should be a setting for this, for sure.

It’s also annoying when Siri AI is thinking/loading results and I accidentally brush the bottom of the screen with my finger, completely erasing my entire inquiry. It should at least complete my request and move it to the Siri app if I dismiss the blob.

Same, also if I ask Siri something basic, some responses will not end up in the Siri app, which I find annoying. I don't care if I'm asking Siri something basic like 2+2, I want everything I ask as an option to be in the app so I can carry on later on if I wish.

Can someone please explain because this might be a deal breaker for me.

On iOS 27, if I am inside an app and I want to view my notifications is my only option to swipe down from the far left corner? Or can I swipe down from the top as long as I am not right over the middle where the Dynamic Island is?

Thanks in advance.

I’m right handed and use a 17 pro max. I cannot reach the far left corner when holding my phone in my right hand (same with the far left bottom corner where Apple super conveniently puts the controls for one handed typing but that is a whole other issue).

I don’t plan on using Siri. I just need to still be able to access notifications. Because that’s kind of a core feature of a phone.

For right now I’m getting better results using ChatGPT. I have it saved as a web app on my Home Screen, not an App Store app. I have Siri disabled as I want access to writing tools more, and Siri was frequently returning some error message rather than results. I’ll check with each new release but for now this set up is much more suitable for me.

Far left for notifications. Far right for control center. Swiping from the dynamic island will be Siri (which sometimes doesn't register and I am unsure if it is sensitivity with the beta or because I started the swipe from the FaceID sensor or camera - works best when you begin your swipe from above the island and continue down through it). Swiping down from the middle of the homescreen will be Siri, just like it was Spotlight before. Taping the search box at the bottom of homescreen (if enabled) will be Siri too.

Has to be top left for notifications. Center of screen is Siri, top right is control center.
Thanks for responding! Is it everything to the left of the Dynamic Island? Or only the left corner?

Also am I overreacting thinking this is a pretty big UI/UX regression just to give us another way to launch Siri? Or do others not rely on the swipe to see notifications gesture that much?

I can't believe they disabled the ability to swipe in the opposite direction to cancel Siri. Instead I have to put my hand way up on the screen and tap on a random location. Good lord.

Also notable new "feature" is the keyboard popping up is SO slow on my iPhone 17 Pro compared to the old Search, so half the time I start typing before the keyboard has appeared, which cancels the search.

Swipping up from the bottom of the screen gets rid of the siri prompt

It doesn’t for me. If it has a response on the screen, you need to swipe up from the bottom of the response. It is ignoring all other bottom screen swipes and not dismissing the bubble. I can even long swipe and pull up the task switcher, but the Siri bubble stays up while switching apps.

So first off, I encourage folks if you have a gripe to file a feedback ticket.

Second, I would note that the prior setup never really made sense. The idea that 2/3rd of the screen gets into Notification Center, and 1/3rd gets Control Center was never particularly a strong choice.

I took MDTyKe’s “cancel” as accidentally triggering Siri and not wanting to ask Siri anything. The reason the response bubble needs to be separately dismissed is by design. I wouldn’t want to have the answer/response disappear if I accidentally tap anywhere on screen.
