A little off topic but I just got a puppy (female) and I'm trying to come up with a name that incorporates graphic design or an art term and I thought this might be the place to find some creative thinkers. I really want to call her jpeg but my husband vetoed it. Any ideas?

Stay away from the dog name from the movie The Jerk, even though that is likely something you'd call your graphic design boss.

Pica sounds good, but you may be tempting fate, considering the chewing habits of puppies to begin with. ;)

Pica: an abnormal desire to eat substances (as chalk, feces, soap, or ashes) not normally eaten

I think I'd have an easier time helping you pick a name if I saw a picture. :D

Let's focus on this definition:

pica 1 |ˈpīkə|
noun Printing
a unit of type size and line length equal to 12 points (about 1/6 inch or 4.2 mm).
• a size of letter in typewriting, with 10 characters to the inch (about 3.9 to the centimeter).
ORIGIN late 16th cent.: from Anglo-Latin pica (literally ‘magpie’ ), commonly identified with a 15th-cent. book of rules about ecclesiastical feasts, but no edition of such a pica printed in “pica” type is known.

Artsy, Graphics names?

Hmm. Moire : 1. The effect of superimposing a repetitive design, such as a grid, on the same or a different design in order to produce a pattern distinct from its components.
2. The perceived distortion or flickering of printed or displayed high-contrast images.
bonus: sounds french. Because it is.

CMYK : (pronounced "see-mick"). stupid? you bet. unique? uh-huh.

Dummy : 1. Simulation of the final product. Also called Mockup.
But that might be mean & hurt Pets self-esteem.

Intaglio : - A type of print making method.

Kerning : 1. The narrowing of space between two letters so that they become closer and take up less space on the page.

Vignette : 1. A photo or illustration, in which the tones fade gradually away until they blend with the background they are printed on.

Scum : 1. Unwanted deposits of ink in the non-image area of a printed piece.
Erm- second thought, lets forget this one... :p

Hope these helped, or at least gave you pause to think!

Aww...what kind of puppy is it?

I like:
-Vector (it kind of sounds like Victor)
-Bezier (You could call her Bezzy for short)
-Bevel (Bev for short)

:D

Have fun picking names...post pics if you have them?

Yes, I was assuming we all knew that one, so I was reminding her of the other definition, which might have been appropriate, depending on the puppy's behavior. :)

I had a cat named Abstract when I was a kid. Always liked the name.

I like pica, but if it's black, white, or black and white, how about the art term Chiaroscuro? (The Italian term for light and dark.) While that's kind of a mouthful, you could call her Chiara (pronounced Key-ar-uh) for short...?

Chiyo
Fetch
Cat-Food
Shigure (the dog from Fruits basket, don't think many dogs will share the name)
Ben
Kipper
