they have so far closed all tickets I submitted on their support, replying hope the issue is fixed...From an outsider point of view, it appears they are just brushing off the issue under the rug. I really hope I'm wrong on that one. It's black Friday week and there are awesome deals to be made out there with Nordvpn for example and many others...
I don't know if NordVPN is any better. It crashes on me -all- the time with Big Sur. It's always in the same panic :-

I've had enough. Personaly I just made the switch to expressvpn. No hard feeling, there is simply better vpn service out there and much better service too. I still have a subscription until 2024 though...a bit waste of money there

Hello everyone,

We apologize for the delayed response and thank you for being patient. After rigorous testing, we have found the probable cause to be a pre-installed program: Little Snitch that Mac users have on their system. Once you’ve Quit that, the PureVPN Mac client shall run smoothly. This is just a temporary fix while our technical team is working proactively to make the client run smoothly with Little Snitch too.

Unfortunately I don’t have little Snitch installed. Had it maybe 15 years ago but that was several computers earlier.

Hi everyone! Excuse us for keeping you waiting.

We have been conducting rigorous testing to find a solution. Little Snitch’s team has reported that there are certain compatibility issues of their app with the new macOS because of the recently released Network Extension framework by Apple. PureVPN is also using the same Network Extension framework as suggested by Apple and that is the source of the issue.

The good news is that they are reporting that the issue has been fixed by Apple in macOS 11.1. Please let us know if the issue is resolved after updating your macOS.

I have finally got a workaround form PureVPN

Please follow below steps to configure PureVPN on your Mac:
1. Go to "System Preferences"
2. Click "Network"
3. Click "+" at bottom left
4. Click on Interface drop down menu
5. Select VPN
6. Select L2TP Over IPSec
7. Put name PureVPN (L2TP)
8. Put server address as: usca1.pointtoserver.com
9. Click on Authentication settings and Insert your password as provided inconfigurations email.
Insert Shared Secret key as 12345678.
Hit OK
10. Click "Apply". Then Click on "Advanced.."
11. Check "Send all traffic over VPN connection".
12. Click on "Apply"
13. You are done. Click on "Connect"It will connect and show green bars.

This appears to be working OK for the moment.
I don't know if my Radio silence is causing problems like LS

Adrian1946 - didn't work for me. This did (offering as an alternative to try)...

1. Go to "System Preferences"
2. Click "Network"
3. Select PureVPN
4. Click connect
5. Launch PureVPN application after you are connected
6. Change what country you want to point to in the app

The server address is sx011202-ikev.pointtoserver.com but that was loaded automatically when I loaded PureVPN (latest version). I had used easyFind (https://www.devontechnologies.com/apps/freeware) to find all traces of PureVPn that uninstalling did not remove.

I have Little Snitch running and working fine during all of this and Big Sur 11.1 (Big Sur upgrade did not fix the problem).

Hope that helps.

I can recommend to use only wireguard protocol for vpn because of the high performance. I tested wireguard with 2 vpn provider, for me it works. I use manual setup with configuration files, on mac and ios.

Pure vpn has not the best ratings and it seems a faulty client, kick it use some other provider. Its not worth to waste time ;) The best providers have meanwhile even ipv6 ip´s and servers.

This issue still unresolved. the purevpn mac os x app crashes instantly all the system, do not open the purevpn app it will kill your mac if you are using Big Sur. I talked to support but they don't have any fix yet neither an ETA to resolve the issue.

I have the same problem: Big Sur crashes with PureVPN and LittleSnitch 5. But I also configured some PureVPN-Servers with Viscosity. And there's the same: Kernel Panic! Not directly, but sometimes.
So it seems that this is a general problem between LittleSnitch and VPN-Services.

There was an issue with VPNs and DNS encryption/tunneling and Network Extensions early on, and it was clearly noted on Little Snitch's site not to run VPN software with it on Big Sur even when it was still in beta.

Apple fixed the issue in MacOS 11.1, AirVPN and Little Snitch 5 now live happily ever after once again here. If yours isn't, then your client needs some work or your Mac itself does.

@califa75 before 11.1 was released I bought Viscosity and never once had a crash with it. For whatever reason Viscosity was able to work just fine pre 11.1 with Little Snitch. I went back to the Air client because it has features that were not as easy to implement in Viscosity.

Hello, I tried a couple of times to install the App on my MAC, and the system crashes as soon as I click on the app icon and the login panel appears.

The manual workaround in System Properties-->Network works, but I'd like of course to use the app. Is it possible that PureVPN doesn't have a fix yet ?

Anyone still having this crash ? Thanks.
