As above.

Is it really that bad for the battery life?

Opie in the other thread has proved that speed is not really affected by the JB.

If I'm not installing much JB power-hungry apps like Winterboard, SBSettings, etc, will the Phone drain real quick. I know the battery life is quite bad even w/o JB.

Any advice? :(

look around the forum

both are discussed! ;) actually you started this thread after you found one of them & posted in it! expected a faster answer by starting a new thread I guess the the 90 post already there!

What?

I think people believe the battery life is worse after jailbreaking only because they are constantly tinkering, downloading, changing things in the phone. That uses a lot more power than making phone calls and sending text. I have not let my phone sit still without a tweek since JB. My 3GS is still fast, the battery is still ok, and besides I have a charger.
:D

Exactly. Its just like the first week I got my iPhone. The battery was draining like mad because I was always using it.

so having Winterboard installed will drain the battery quicker?? What if no themes are used but Winterboard is just installed, same effect?

I used Redsnow on my 3G phone and the battery life was fine, till I restored settings from a backup. I let it sit there for 30 minutes and checked the battery and it was 91% when I didn't touch it. An hour later, it was about 75% after just letting it sit there.

I restored again and all was well.

so you guys recommend I use redsn0w?

I'll start it up as a new iPhone & not restoring from any back-up.

Will not be installing Winterboard.

Maybe SBSettings (is that power-hungry?)

& maybe certain apps.

After restoring my phone as new, I added SBSettings and Appsync, and all my apps, again this morning my battery is dead after six hours.

I wish I could figure this out.

Restoring for a backup espeically if it was jailbroken causes some problems with battery life. Try to restore then set up as new phone and then sync and see if that solves your problems :/

Already tried and this time the only things installed were SBSettings and Appsync. Still superfast battery drain. I'm giving up.

Lets put it this way...

Things like SBSettings, the ability to theme, and running apps like Pandora in the background while writing a email or surfing the web, is worth the little extra juice drainage Jailbreaking brings.

I still can make it through an entire day without worrying about the battery and my 3GS still boots with 155mb free and stays at 99-110mb after a few days usage.

Meaning its speedy still :D

That would be fine if I could get through a day with the 3G like you can. Mine is draining in 5-6 hours overnight while I am sleeping so it is not even being used.

The 3G and 3Gs are night and day with battery life. My old 3G wouldn't make it through the day WITHOUT the JB.

So I feel your pain...time to upgrade ;)

I also have a 3G S that I won't jailbreak yet. This is why I'm experimenting on the 3G and the 2G iPhones. The 2G is jailbroken and has everything working fine on 3.0 with no battery drain.

The 3G only has the battery drain when Jailbroken.

Purplera1n and Redsn0w do not affect your battery life or speed. It's the other stuff you install that does that.

my 2g phone is dead within 6 hours once i jailbroke it :(

seems to me though that your 3gs battery might be defective :/ unless your battery life is fine without the jailbreak

Unlocked 3GS. Push notifications turned off... BATTERY LIFE WORSE than 3G model... Anyone experience this? Its draining pretty fast considering my 3G is also off (TMO USA).

I'm using it the same way as I did with my 3G....

Spacekitty have you tried resetting network settings? some people have said it helped them

I've tried everything. Whatever it is is causing usage time to be the same as standby time so whatever is running is consuming the battery. This is even with no apps synced yet and only cydia installed from the jailbreak.

Try downloading a system monitor program from the app store to see what programs are running; really don't know what else there is
