it requires you setting up your GMail account through your exchange account on your iPhone. I already have an exchange account on my phone with my work's email... am I missing something?

crap, I want a true PUSH solution (without the aid of Microsoft Exchange)

I already use Google Sync for calendar and contacts. This is just gravy... sweet, delicious, pushed gravy.

Yay thanks for the post! I set it up and sent myself a test email. I got it about one second after I got it on my computer

For me, it pushes just fine, but it doesn't show all of the other emails that I have in the folders.. Might have to just drag 'em all over..

I saw that and I just noticed it's a setting you can change in the settings app

I would imagine that today will be a "bad" day for push gmail given that I am SURE tons of people are adding it to their iphone and causing a drain on resources

Yeah true. Message came through after a few minutes anyway.

As I said, though, I'm worried about the effect it'll have on my battery life, and I'll be watching it closely.

Worked great for me. And now that I can have multiple folders sync - Labels and sorting now are totally worth it! - this is great. I think I found my reason to not re-up with MobileMe.

As long as you don't get a constant stream of emails and apple has nothing ****ed with ActiveSync the battery usuage is next to nothing.
