While I'm grateful for google in bringing us push email, the launch today sucks. Multiple people having problems. If it can't handle the tiny fraction of people who have signed up today, how is it going to handle the masses who don't even know it's available yet.

I'm not having any big time issues. Maybe a slight delay in receiving messages but that's better than nothing right now. My problem is mostly just that my inbox doesn't seem to be "settling" too well right now.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I rebooted and still can't get badges for new mail...only the sound plays when new mail is received. Yes, gmail is my default account.

I guess it's just wait and see...

Mine is having a problem where messages not in the inbox won't download (I'm only getting messages from yesterday).

It has only just launched, though, and it is still in beta, so you have to be fair really.

Guys,

If you're having problems with push, just let her sit for about 30 minutes or so until the circle stops spinning. The gmail account needs to do an initial sync with your phone, which causes a long delay while it downloads messages to your phone.

Unfortunately, the was EAS is implemented on the iPhone (or just the way EAS works in general, I'm not sure) is that push will only work when the phone is not loading other data from the mail account (ie syncing your other mail folders).

Once everything is synced, push should start working normally again, but it's going to take quite a while in some cases.

Wait a sec...then what's the point? Just a minor low volume sound alert to let you know you have new mail?

The only thing you don't get as of now is a pop up, like a preview or message saying new email. Besides your problem not getting badges everyone should get a badge and a sound.

The default setting is to only sync messages 1 day in the past. You can turn this off in the Mail, Contacts and Calendars settings page by taping on your gmail account and then scrolling down to the setting for this.

alright, new to the forum, but have frequented it often to figure out problems and other things. anyways, im tryin to set this up, im on step 9, and it hasnt moved in about 15 minutes, just keeps spinning saying "verifying exchange account information".

im hoping this is just bc everyone is tryin to get it set up today, but i want to use my phone w/o this crap stuck on my screen.

okay, just hit the home button and i guess it may have cancelled the process, but i did get the 2 emails saying "thanks for signin up for macforums" granted, i opened the confirmation one on my computer, and then the "welcome!" one on my phone. im guessing thats prob from the 15min auto pull.

any help would be greatly appreciated. i guess ill just try to set it up again starting from step 1

This is pretty awesome. I'm paid for another year in MM, but may start switching stuff over to gmail now. I've been using Dropbox instead of iDisk and gmail vs MM mail. I still use MM for contacts and calendars. For those of you that use Gmail (and hopefully familiar with the MM system) how well does the google method work? Is it difficult to sync iCal and Address Book from Mac to Google?

It's probably, like you said, everyone just setting up at once. I'd give it another try or just wait until later. It's taking me about a minute or longer to even delete emails at this point.

Just changed it to "no limit", thanks :)

BTW, this is now in the trending topics on Twitter! :D

I really doubt Google will have a problem supporting the load. The usage on their exchange server is probably not even a blip on the screen compared to the overall usage through pop/imap.

Finally, this has been a long time coming, but now that its live and its working (relatively well) are any other people going to continue to use apps like PushMail?

I loved how quick this app pushes my mail and I feel like I'll miss the popups on the lockscreen. Or am I missing a setting that will allow exchange push to show popups with the preview?

I just read a tweet from GPush saying that it's getting pushed faster on their servers than it is through exchange. I think that experience will differ among users and once there's not a crapload of people testing at once I think exchange will be quicker in the long run. Plus being native to the Mail.app is so key to me.

If I understand Exchange correctly, does this mean that if someone sends an event invitation email to your Google address, you'll get the badge on the iPhone's calendar app?

May be I am missing something, but so far I do not understand the difference between push gmail which is set up using Exchange and what I have used so far - IMAP.

In both cases I am getting a badge and a sound.

Also I am a bit confused on the settings:

I have turned on PUSH, but below it says fetch - every 15 min, 30 etc. I am not sure how to properly set up push gmail - does the fetch still have to be set say for 15 mins?

I have a couple of questions that maybe someone can answer.

1 - Why is the drafts folder down at the bottom and a folder and not up top like on the imap?

2 - What is the darn [GMAIL] tree thing? Why does that show up on imap and exchange? Yet other folders show up regularly? I don't get any of that. Anyway to fix that?
