Funny I saw this thread.
I have had OS 3 since it was available, probably a few weeks before and I have yet to see a single notification.

I read yesterday that the ebay app was updated to include Push notifications.
I updated the app yesterday.
I have several auctions ending last night.
My iphone sat silent the entire night, not a single beep, whistle or text.
Wake up this morning and I find out that I lost one that I wanted by like $1.

Does Apple even know what push notifications mean?

Is it too much to ask to have my app buzz me at 10pm that an auction I am participating in is about to end and I am losing?

Your settings must have been off or something, I've tested the Ebay push notifications about 30 times now and it has worked flawlessly:confused:

FOR ANY JAILBROKEN USERS:

The GRip package is an amazing iteration of what push on the iPhone/iPod Touch should be. Not sure how this sounds to anyone who hasnt actually seen it in use but...

Basically instead of pulling up the noticfication in the middle of the screen, also blurring the rest making it intouchable, GRip allows you to choose a corner the notification is shown, and is not a HUGE notification that prevents interaction with the rest of the screen.

Wow. I know I butchered that. Can someone who has/knows of this explain better? I know some that are unsatisfied with Apple's current Push system could find this useful.

It's all in the implementation. Prowl is an amazing app and being able to script custom push messages from my server has been great. I have scripts setup to push new google voice text messages, new gmails, etc, etc. Possibilities are endless when you can send custom push notifications.

agreed. i get a prowl notification every time my automated backup is successful. talk about piece of mind.

it just calls it "futbol". so it could be MLS, FIFA, or any other leagues, but i dont know. i'm not really a fan of soccer. But i imagine it will give u options on which leagues you want

Thanks for the reply. I tried the app myself as it was free. The "futbol" section does give me options for different leagues worldwide, but push alerts are not implemented for them yet.

I will stick with Sportacular, which I currently use, as it now has the push feature added too. No push for soccer leagues, either, though. I guess soccer needs to become more popular in the U.S.

Cheers!

It's Growl for the iPhone. It gives Growl-like notifications that aren't intrusive. The notification is a transparent little box in one of the screen corners, with an arrow to show more information and an X to close the notification. It also fades away after a few seconds.

Sure, they could give us options for notifications. But I would not at all call it disappointing. Push + BeeJiveIM have made my iPhone immeasurably more useful, and I have not found the pop-ups too intrusive.
